Xenia is self destructing. Help

I read some where that Xenia will suddenly just dissolve and fall apart and spores will spread and reattach in effort to reproduce. Is this a bunch of crap or true?? I've had my colony for over 10 years and tonight I just watched it self destruct within 1hr. The colony was over 10" across with polyps over 8" long. I've had to cut it back several times. Everything in the tank is blooming. Sps and lps are fine. What's the deal? Any idea anyone?

it is true, if you don't want them on all your rocks, make the skimmer wet skim for a week and do frequent WCs, turn on UV if you have one.

I relocated the Xenia to a 40 gal breeder tank that I use to introduce new pieces before I put them into the 60 gallon display system. All share the same water. About 140gallons of water with the 75 gallon sump.
So the Xenia is now stable with about a 50% loss in tissue and the skimmer is turned up. I tested the water and all parameters are good, so I'm going to wait a day or so before I stress the system with a WC. With the skimmer turned up it will dump about 10 gallons a day and I'll replace with RO water while testing salinity. All other corals and live stock are great. I'll just keep a very close watch on it. Thank you for the input

if its suddenly melting then there must be something different going on. There is no evidence that it melts to reproduce. When my colony started to disappear it appears as if it was melting but it was being eaten by a fish that after several months decided he liked xenia. if it is stable in a different tank that is plumbed into the same system then even more evidence of predation.
