Xenia outbreak, please help!

Ok so I got a few Xenia on some live rock and I was really happy with them adding character to my tank. A few months down the line and these guys are popping up everywhere. When I cut them off the rock they just regrow two fold in a couple weeks. I'm now worried they take over my tank!

Any tips for slowing them or getting rid of some? I'm worried if I scrape them off the rock the little bits will spread even more... please help!

you only have xenia in your tank?

I was thinking the same Q
They tend to bloom in tanks with high nutrient level, so the best way to control them is to start from controlling nutrient level. It'll be tough to eliminate them though if you also have other corals you want to keep.

No I have a few others, the tank is only 3 months old though

Do you think I should just let them be instead of sacrificing the heath of the other inverts? sorry I'm new to this

If they grow back in the same spot you can try cutting them and then putting some gel glue over the spot to try to snub them out. But if they come back in all different spots then you cant really glue your whole tank.

Tank looks really good for 3 months.

It does look good for 3 months. And honestly I wouldn't call it an "outbreak" yet. you can always place small rubbles over them and have them "craw" onto it then trade them into your LFS for credit!

Thanks! That's a good idea, im not too worried right now but at the rate they are growing, it can see it being a problem

You can always remove rocks with them and dry them out. Personally I preferred the rubble method when I had xenia. I actually had a bad dense algae outbreak for a while and the xenia crawled right off the base rock and on to the algae. That made it really easy to get off, but not really possible to sell. I liked keeping it on a piece of rock isolated in the sand bed.
