Sooo.. I cut all the xenia stocks out of my tank every two weeks( let me know if you want any for FREE as much as you want!!) ,its not that they spread they just grow and grow and grow and never stop and grow faster and faster everytime. Its also taking up prime real estate in my tank. If i cut the stock as close as i can then epoxy an sps over it will it throw my params off when it eventually dies under the epoxy? i know one or two wouldnt be bad but i have about 30+ areas.

Taking the rock out isnt an option since i have alot of encrusting sps all over the rocks that the xenia is on

TIA

Strategically placed rubble rock glued into place if necessary in the path of the traveling xenia(they usually travel upwards) will give you a chance to remove the colonies in tact when they grow and attach to the new rubble. You then just remove the small rock.

I'd also be interested in grabbing a bit if you have that much extra. :) Have a single piece in my tank currently which has grown since I introduced it (height/width), but it hasn't really "expanded". Yet. Love the look of the stuff though!

Thanks Dan,

ironically enough both large "forests" of xenia are at the top whish is why i think they are growing soo rapidly, but im going to try to put some rock near them. They havent really spread , i cut and within a month they are an easy 2-3 inches full grown again..Im at a loss for what to do as i have encrusting SPS all over both pieces

Shimmy and Andy,

Your more than welcome to come to my place, i will cut as much as you would like and glue it to a frag disc for you.

Well if you get your nutrients low enough they will crash. They do better in tanks with a heavy bio load and some measurable nitrate and phos.

I use xenia in my tank as a test kit for nitrate and phosphate since I hate testing the tank. When it starts to grow I do a large water change and trim as much of it as I can.

I have the opposite problem. I can never keep xenia alive!! They live and grow for a few months, then die they all die off...

Ill let you know how a dremel a hammer and a chisel work out for me! One of them is bound to get rid of this problem
