I know this sounds barbaric, but is there anyway to actually kill xenia? Its taking over my tank! I keep cutting it back, but it growns back even stronger...
do you mean to completely kill the whole coral? if so, there're many ways...for instance taking it out of water and just letting it sit. But i'm w/supernerd on that one...why not just take it to the lfs?
if you took all the xenia in your tank to the LFS you would have no LR left. just take a razor blade and chop it off. make sure you get all of it off the rock or it will grow back with a vengence...
I dont want to kill it all, but i have some other corals attached to the same rocks that the xenia are growning on. I dont want to have to get rid of my other stuff.
I was just going to try to down size on the xenia. So you you have any creative ways to remove it with out killing or removing the other stuff attached to the same rocks, please pass the ideas down.
I use tweezers from marine depot. It has little serrated tips that help me peel away the coral from the base, on the LR, before ripping them off by their stalk.
I take my nail and try to get under the stock. Then I just chip away. After doing that 10-15 times I pulled what I could and I just laid some epoxy over what remains. No more Xenia.
Plus if you can time it. Use the epoxy to lay in some new coral. Kill two birds with one stone
i just cut and trade in to lfs--they give me $10 a stalk, I walked out of there with $250 one time, store credit and bought kalk and other additives along with carbon. Nothing like free maintenance additives. other times i cut and give away. I am getting tired of snipping also.
