Hi

I could use some help from someone with my xenia. I has been multiplying and doing well until recently. I tested all the water parameters and they were normal so I am at a loss. the "Pumping" hand of the xenia seems like its being nibbled by something. I have not added any new fish or anything else in my tank. I've been dosing calcium regulary and keeping the alkalinity the same. Is this something that I should be concerned about? Is it normal? Is there anything I can do about it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!:bum:

Xenia are softies not LPS so try posting it there... but the calcium level has little to do with how they feel... they actually like iodine... but please dont dose anything that you dont test for, it can throw your levels completely out of whack...

Matt is correct!!! Alk. might be off, that has a lot to do with how the structure of the coral is. When I 1st got my xenia frag I thought something was nibbling on it as well, but that wasnt it because i move it off the sand bed and rocks... same thing. my calc. was off the charts... so in turn since my calc was high, my alk was lowwww.

You might have a predatory worm in there. Get a flashlight and but a red lens on it. If you can't find a red lens, go buy some red tissue paper and rubberband it to the flashlight. The red light enables you to watch the tank without scaring the worm. Then, right after lights out, start watching the Xenias and see if anything comes out of the rockwork to eat the Xenias. Eunicid worms are notorious Xenia munchers. They only come out at night and are next to impossible to catch. If you do have one, you will need to see which rock he calls home and remove the rock.

Mine was doing the same....after sitting and watching my tank for a while, i found out my marroon clown was biting the hands off....weird but explains downfall and the missing hands

I've seen where it gets so stressed that the "hands" just fall off. Check the PH--gotta keep that in check also, they are super sensitive to PH. All mine close up at night when my ph drops to about 8.1
