XM 10K on Icecaps

Is there a difference in colour between the running 250W SE 10K XM's on an Icecap E-ballast or on a magnetic ballast?

Thanks

I don't know what the difference would be, but I would say yes there is a difference. Most bulbs look different depending upon the ballast.

Here is the pictures of XM 10K from http://www.cnidarianreef.com/lamps.cfm
The one on the right has (2) 140 watt URI VHO actinics on.

Can you expect this colour on the IceCaps?

If not, what colour do you get?

It seems by the spectral plot that they are differnet colours.

Has anyone got a pic of the 250W XM 10K on Icecaps?

according to sanjay's website the bulbs would be a little higher in Kelvin on a magnetic ballast. I have them on icecaps and love the color. Nice crisp white color and the vhos add a tint of blue.

Oh cool, thanks for your reply.
I like the colour in the pics but they all seem to be on magnetic ballasts.
I was afraid that they went really yellow on an electric ballast.

are you talking about my pic? if you are, those are old old pics and not the XMs, but at first they'll be a little yellow, then whiten up within a couple weeks.

The one I posted up a bit is the XM's on magnetic ballasts i think. I like that colour but was unsure if the electric ballast would make it too yellow.

When I bought my ice cap for a 250 DE, I was told the XM's 10k wouldn't run on it (after I had bought them of course). And they were right, they did not run. They accepted the return with no problems. I don't know if this issue exists with the SE or not.

I have Ice Cap running 250w XM 10k's with no problems, been probably a month now. I think the older Ice Cap ballast did not fire these....

New icecap ballast should fire all bulbs.

I am running them (IC 250w ballasts) to drive single ended XM10k lamps. I dont have any additional lighting on this tank.
To me its crisp white. I love the color.
