XM Bulbs

I recently purchased a pair of XM 175w, 10k MH bulbs from Marinedepot. Everyone talks about how "white" these bulbs appear and how they can appear really blue during the break-in period. After 1 1/2 weeks (80 hours) of break-in time, the bulbs still appear much more yellow than my old 6500k coralife bulbs. It is unbearable to look at the tank without the vho's on. Shouldn't the yellowing be dissapearing by now or is it possible that I got a bad batch of bulbs? The bulbs are being ran on a Coralife Ballast containing one Blueline 10k bulb along with the 2 new XM bulbs.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for ordering with us. The XM 10,000k bulb will normally display a yellower color than other 10K bulbs that are available in the market (Ushio, Aqualine, Hamilton). This is an attribute that leads to the higher PAR values for this bulb that increases coral growth. What you describe on your Reefcentral.com post as "Everyone talks about how "white" these bulbs appear and how they can appear really blue during the break-in period. " is what we have heard and experienced on the 20K bulb. I checked on your order and you were sent the correct bulbs. If you would like to return the bulb, we can inspect it for you and compare them to other XM bulbs. If it is a defective bulb we can replace it for you, but the colors from other 10K XM bulbs will probably be the same.
