xp home edition and aquanotes

If we hooked up an AquaController II to a desktop that uses XP Home Edition - that is hooked to a linksys cable router (hooked into a cable modem):

1) would we be able to monitor from another location (computer)? I know there are some issues with XP Home Edition, but am not sure if it would interfere with monitoring.

2) is there a way to have the computer on XP Home Edition call my cell phone if alarm status is reached (through the linksys and cable modem)?

Thanks!

This won't work as XP Home edition does not have IIS. You would have to have XP Pro to do that or at least Windows ME or Win98SE.

Aquanotes might work with XP home for just alerting you in case of a problem. It can't serve any data to the web since XP home does not ave IIS (webserver) built in.

Oh well... thanks for the answer anyway:-)!

We have an old IBM Thinkpad 760 with Windows 98 loaded. I guess I will need to check and see if there is a way to make it compatible with the Linksys (at least I think it says Windows 98 will work)!

Yes, you will have to upgrade to XP pro. Microsoft orginally created Personal web server (PWS) to fill the gap for window NT, ME, but stop support for XP home edition which cannot install IIS

Thanks!
I think that is what it is (a programmer put it on there for us). I'll have to check.

Ebay has better prices than I thought on the upgrade ($60 or so)... reef tanks are the worst "money pits" I know of! One more dumb question: if we upgrade to pro, would we be wiping off the desktop or could all else stay in place?
