Y.S. Maroon male

My male y.s. maroon has been acting funny today. He comes out and swims around. He looks normal, but he ignored food today. I feed pe mysis and cyclopeeze. He normally devours both, but not today. Any idea what it could be?

Hmm - how long have you had the pair - could he be guarding eggs in the back where you can't see them? I hear that when they lay eggs - the male will refuse to eat since he's too busy guarding... You said he's young though... so maybe that's not the case?

They've been in the tank for almost 4 months.

Is that long enough for them to mate.

He did come out of his hole today, but just far enough to eat.

G.S. maroons are generally an exception to that rule - my male doesn't do anything with the eggs when they spawn - it is entirely the female that takes care of them while he dotes on her.
