Yashia Goby

So i need a shrimp and also I read that males are bigger and that if you want you can add a big one and a small one and the big one becomes a male and the small one the female.

That's not at all what I've heard from that site. Maybe I missed a thread, but the males have a dark spot on the pectoral fins and the females do not. Also, the shape of the urogenital papillae can determine the sex.

From that article,

"There are no readily apparent external differences hobbyists can use to differentiate between sexes. In some instances, pairs have been collected from the wild where the male is the larger member, while in other instances it is the female that is the largest. There have been reports (Baensch, 1994) of using the dorsal spine as a means to indicate the sex of the animal, but after reviewing the research data for this species, that would seem a highly unreliable characteristic. For all intents and purposes, there is no way a hobbyist can tell the difference between male and female Stonogobiops while the animal is still alive."

Just in case anybody was wondering what they look like.

This fish is one of the most prized gobies in the Reef worl.

My local fish store had 2 a while back and im just kicking myself for mot getting them.

They are sooo beautiful especially with a shrimp.

which article are you quoting? I'm talking about the marinebreeder.org website. If you look, I there are a few people who have had successful spawns, but no one has raised them the whole way. They paired based on characteristics I talked about above.

I have one with a candy cane shrimp, my LFs has 2 more, I'm thinking that i may get another, see if they will pair, I'm having a hard time seeing my guys "pelvic" fins that indicate the differnece.

its not the dorsal, its the mark near the pelvis fin that they say can determine change.

according to the table on the RK link poster earlier by Agu, Gobies aren't compatible with clownfish?

PS: either Clownfish is spelt wrong in the table or simply missing referring to Cowfish
