year progression

hey there, it's been a year of ups and downs from the first pics. Tank seems to be stable now, despite loss of coral that was beat up from the experiments gone bad.

Good work! I always tell myself I'm going to do progressions but I move stuff around or frag stuff here and there. Need to fight the temptation lol

thanks guys, yup it's an OT, grows slow but not as slow as some. Plus started out with a big frag so it had a head start. Lighting is 3x250w HQI 20k and 6 DIY led panels. Started out with Odyssea 20k, then tried Plusrite 14k, then Pheonix 14k and went back to the Odyssea's. So far the $10 bulbs look the best to me, tank was brighter and corals grew faster under the pheonix but colors were washed out. May try some Ushio 20k before swapping out the DE pendants for SE and running Radium or slapping the T5's back on. Never happy with the lights lol.
I still have plenty of room and have been getting more lately. Ran the Mg up with tech M to kill bryosis and stressed out a bunch of corals. Then dosed Koral Color and a few AF products to try and beat the algae. Ended up causing quite a few corals to RTN. Still have a few more in purgatory that I expect not to make it Bryopsis is still there, it's under control from adding around 20 lettuce nudis. Power heads have been making quick work of them so I expect the algae to come back. Have stopped dosing all products and tank seems to be stable. So I hope next years update isn't zoa/lps pics

stick with your T5/LED, colors were better back when I ran that combo last go around. Besides you don't want 250w heaters on top of your tank lol On the other hand I can pump in 5 gallons of kalk every 2 1/2 days which IMO helps with growth. Using 7 tsp kalk per 5, so still have some time before I need to finish building the calcium reactor and fill out the divorce papers

Sweet. Love MH myself. Running 3 250Watt 20k Radiums here and love it. Temps in the tank hold pretty good as well with no chiller. Hopefully once everything gets move on to the main display growth will be good. I'm with you for coloring SPS T5s are second to none.
How tall is your tank?

don't tell me that , loving the Radiums lol. I am running Blue Wave magnetic m80 ballasts. Priced out changing the pendants and bulbs and it's way to much coin for me. When I built the canopy, I designed it so the pendants are not enclosed and are cooled with fans blowing across them. I would have to cut bigger holes since I cannot find SE pendants the same dimensions then rework the LED as well. Every once in a while I run into a little cash that gets dumped back into the tank so some day it may happen, once all the other tinkering is finished.
Tank is a std 150g so I believe it is 29" tall. It's 18" wide with overflows that take up way too much real estate, working the lighting around them didn't leave enough room for any T5

That's the way this hobby goes for most of us brother. A little bit here and a little bit there. Trying to change it all at once would make you broke as heck. :blown:I had the magnetic ballasts and went to electric HQIs. I did like you, designed the canopy to fit my pendants. I have the lumen bright minis. Love them. Also run a fan when temps goes over 79.5.
Brother bottom line is you are kicking *** with your set up. I just started experimenting with mine. I placed a couple of corals to test. We'll see how it works.

Have you measure par in the tank? What numbers are you getting on the top of the rocks and at the sand. And average lets say. Sorry about all the questions trying to get and idea of what to expect. It's scary for me bc I have my frag tank with the T5s dialed down so I'm very hesitant to move all the stuff over. :uhoh3:

We are all like that. I recently almost torched all my acros messing with my lights trying to get things a "little better". Lost a bunch of frags, Never again, at least never until I get that insatiable itch to "tweak" somthing:uhoh2:
