Yellow carpet

[welcome]

Depends on the species, a "yellow carpet" could easily be one of several non hosting species. Not to mention, some have eaten clowns in captivity.

Posting a few pictures would be very helpful.

Providing some background information on the tank as well would be helpful.

Good luck and make sure to feed it every 3 days or so with a meaty meal(small cut fish and shrimp about 1cm x 1cm in size)

Sorry If the pictures arn't that good, my dig cam isn't great. I got him yesterday becasue the guy at the aquarium store told me he would host perc's and thats what I wanted to get. He seems to be moving to the back of the tank.

Yeah, I don't know whats going on with the picture sorry. anyways I bought two percs today and they arn't going anywhere near him. This really sucks becasue I tryed to do some research before I bought him, and all I could fined is that carpets where good hosts to these fish and they guy at the store told me the same thing... From what I've read he'll only get around 10 inches or so, but I'm not shure, and hes kinda a pinkish colour with light green tips, but it was listed as a yellow? hummmm.... anyone know where I could find some pictures so I can id this guy?

A clownfish will host until they are ready. Sometimes they host instantly or it can take a month or two. No one really can give you an answer if they will host or not.

Although, it seems like Maroon clownfish are good at hosting carpets just bc I have seen maroons with carpets more than any other clownfish. But that doesn't mean you should go get Maroons, your percs might host within a matter of days.

As for identifying your carpet, a yellow carpet looks like this:

Obviously you are describing a different kind of carpet here. Here is a great thread for you to look through to see if the one you have matches any:

Hopefully that helps

Again, some "carpets" are not natural hosts and have been known to eat clowns, clean up crews, etc.

I forget who it was but their Carpet actually ate a Queen Conch. They saw an empty shell on the Carpet when they came home. So its all fair game now. :)

Try getting your pic up soon.

Thanks for all your help. The deal with the pictures are, it says they are too big of a file size to upload. But anyway, I took the anenome to another pet store and they gave me a bta for it and one of my clowns is loving it like crazy right now and I couldn't be happyer. once again thank all of you!!!

the bigger of the two clowns died today, I've never had a saltwater fish die on me yet =( my fish seem to be breathing hard... it doesn't look like they have anything wrong with them... the temp is at 82 because its so hot in my house... there's lots of little particle's floting around in the water but all my filters are running, I have an internal and an external filter. Could this be becasue of the temp? should I invest in a water cooler? I love my fish!!! a sad day... the smaller fish is still loving the anenome and the anenome is looking great. I hope I didn't put something bad in the tank with the new fish.

have you tried setting a small fan on top of the tank to blow across the water surface? I have a fan on top of my tank and it works wonders...

This time of year, likely a parasitic infection is causing the rapid breathing.

Thinking Brook or Amyloo as the more common quick killers of clowns.

Definitely do not add more fish and plan on treating the fish. It would be worth heading back to the LFS you bought the fish from and checking out their stock. If they are breathing rapidly, showing a whitish slime, eroded fins or lateral line you have a positive parasite issue.

Best of luck and while there is a slim chance you have a specific tank issue(check your ammonia levels now), I would err on the side of parasite diagnosis until concrete evidence to the contrary is presented.

My Happy clown with his new BTA. I cooled down the water by facing the AC at the tank and breathing and behaveior has returned to normal. I will still check on the other fish at the LPS to be on the safe side.
