Keeping my first yellow coris wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus).
Questions!
In QT he ate well and was very friendly. Now he's been in the DT for about a month. He is out and about and friendly as can be, as long as its not feeding time. When its feeding time, he goes behind the rocks to wait until its over. I have never seen this fish eat a single thing since he's been in the DT. He's probably eating some pods and anything else he can find, but is it weird that he never grabs a mouthful of whatever the other fish are eating? Ever?! He's not losing weight but I think it's very strange he doesnt nibble the food the other fish eat. I feed a variety of fresh and frozen foods. He is never interested. What is he eating?
Also, He also goes to bed promptly at 7pm. The lights stay on until 10 and the other fish stay awake, but the YCW never stays awake past 7.
Please someone with experience tell me if this is normal behavior.

The fact he is not losing weight is assuring, so you are probably right that he is getting enough pods.

The hiding when feeding is interesting, my initial thoughts on looking at your fish list is that the mckoskers might be intimidating him. Feeding time is when flasher wrasses get quite bold, flashing at other fish.

The going to bed early is normal and should gradually extend later, but feedings help with this, and since he isnt interested in what your feeding, there is no reason for him to stay up. This actually points that he is getting enough to eat foraging around your tank because otherwise he would stay up hunting pods.

Thank you for your input. Good to know the early to bed thing is normal. I'll watch his weight and the pod population. Hopefully both those things remain stable.

As above, the early nights are normal.

My Cosmetus wrasse is by far the king of the tang when it comes to bossing everything about but he is shy at feeding time also. This isn't because of the other fish but more because i'm there. If i take a step back it is more bold and eats well.
If thats not the case with yours, although settling in can take a while ime, you could also try lating some mysis or similar directly onto the rockwork and see if it takes it then. Its good it isn't losing weight but as it grows and uses up the natural food you will need to get it taking something else.

mine eats with other fish..but sometimes when i first put the food in he will dart about quickly.. the other day he jumped up out of tank.
come to think of it he's the first fish to settle away at night also.

My yellow coris keeps short hours. He's the last one up and the first one to bed... he was also extremely skittish for like the first month I had him. The sight of me stepping towards the tank would send him diving into the sand.

I think he now realizes that I provide the mana he seeks, and now he gets really excited when I'm around, he looooves to eat little pellet foods. I try the shrimp but he has trouble with the bigger pieces.

Definitely a fish that takes some time to get settled.
