yellow fiji problems

I am new to the hobby and would appreciate the help. I have a frag which developed a skin and was trapping gasses under this skin. When I moved the coral the skin broke and the coral underneath started to disinigrate. The parts have stopped blowing away and am left with a white, yellow flesh, that is still ragged in spots. What should I do now? If it is possibly still alive what type of circulation should I have it in to stop this from happening again? What should a growing frag look like?

sounds like it may be dead. give it a sniff test, if it smell bad, and i suspect it will, toss it. ususally when they fall apart they are finished.

if there is only a small amount of disenegration and it smells ok, just keep an eye on it.

This is what mine looked like when I first got it. Maybe a little larger than your frag but this is a healthy one.

Thanks for the reply and the picture! I
will give it a sniff test when I get home, hopefully it will smell ok. The picture gives me something to look forward to if everything turns out ok.

Any part of that coral can grow if given the right conditions. If the film was over the top I was shedding. These corals will do this from time to time.

Agreed with gobie.

Give it the sniff test ... come back here. Corals are remarkably hardy, and I've grown some from a dozen polyps to nice sized corals.

IMO, if it's got some yellow healthy flesh ... chances are good.

Can you get a picture?

That would help ... and would help suggest if you want to do something. If it's doing poorly, human intervention might be a good idea.
