Yellow Fish Ideas

I have a one year old 75 gallon reef tank that currently houses a clown pair, coral beauty, starry blennie and a bluegreen chromis. I am ready to add another fish and was wondering if I could get suggestions for yellow fish species that are reef safe, could live in a 75 gallon tank, and would be compatible with my current fish.

Midas blenny, yellow coris wrasse, yellow candy hogfish, royal gramma (part yellow), yellow or lemonpeel angel (might fight with coral beauty and/or nip coral). I've also seen small yellow tangs in tanks that size.

Yellow coris hands down. Super friendly, stay small, always out, and constantly moving. Not to mention bright banana yellow
 
I just looked up the coris. I like it! Also, wondering if the one spot fox face would get along with my other tank mates?

I wasn't a fan of the foxface. I had one for a while and it spent much of the day more of a brownish color. They get pretty big too.
 
Yellow Coris or Midas blenny. Maybe a yellow assessor basslet. The Midas should be fine with the starry, a lot of people have good luck with that combination. I plan on having a tail spot, starry, and Midas in my 90 gallon. I already have the starry and the tail spot and they do fine together.

Mine is almost always yellow but does camouflage to the white-striped brownish color at night (or when stressed, but that hasn't happened since I purchased him). Pending time of day he will add a bit more "black" to himself to "blend in" more, but since adding more fish he's as yellow as can be. IMO, seeing him actively change his body-color when pressing against a rock to "hide" is incredibly neat.
There are 4 different types of Foxface; Magnificent Foxface (not yellow), Bi-Color Foxface (half yellow... maybe), Foxface Lo (yellow), One-Spot Foxface (yellow).
The One-Spot Foxface is several inches smaller than the Foxface Lo and is a good choice for a 4' tank like a 75-120 gallon, IMO. Make sure you feed marine algae and hang nori a few times per week. If you keep certain types of macro algae in your sump you can grow it out and feed it to him as well. One of my favorite fish in the tank. Also make sure you get a true One-Spot Foxface, as Foxface Lo can have a similar "spot" (it's actually just camo when the Lo "creates" the spot).
 
I have two yellow corris wrasse and they swim around together. [emoji16]
Get the smallest you can find so you can enjoy them for years and watch them grow. Be sure to have some sand as that's where they go to sleep.
 
definitely agree with yellow coris wrasse. i've had one for about a year. very active fish and if you want something yellow, they fit the bill!

something was wrong. they should not be in their camo mode unless something is bothering them. mine stays an intense yellow all the time. one spots are not that big. very hardy fish. reef safe, great with others and will keep algae in check. what more could you ask for? just stay away from it's dorsal.
 
I agree. It never seemed happy in the tank. I inherited him when I bought the system from another reefer. There was a pretty mean yellow tang in there with him...

I gave him to another reefer with a huge 300 gallon tank. I hear he's doing really well.
 
There is a nice looking all yellow dorryback out there. Your residents seem like a hardy bunch so it might work out if added last & while small.

If you have big $$ to spend there is an ultra cool all yellow hawkfish available but open your wallet wide.
 
Foxfaces are great fish, but will be cramped in a 75 gal IMO. Agree with suggestions for Midas Blenny and Yellow Coris. A Yellow Assessor is another small fish that would do well.

The Midas Blenny and Starry Blenny occupy different ecological niches, so you should not have any problems with them.

One-Spot's are smaller (maxing out at about 7", but most stay around 5-6") and are fine for a 75 gallon+ tank :)

The more common Foxface Lo will definitely be cramped in anything less than 6' when full grown, though!

I've heard that Yellow Tangs, if added prior to a Foxface, will bully the crap out of them. Oddly enough though, I've heard that if the Foxface was there first (and well established) it will become BFFs with a Yellow Tang :fun4:
