yellow gig?

i just picked up this lemon yellow gig from a lfs. here is a pic of it still in the bag. it was expanded and looked great when i picked it up. it retracted some from the ride. lol

think this is actually a yellow gig or maybe green and bleached? the yellow looks saturated and honestly lemon yellow. either way, i couldn't walk away from it i think i'm seeing a pattern develop here... i need bigger tanks! lol

i will post more pics of it in qt and down the road....

That does not look dyed to me. That looks like a nice challenge to me, one I would take on. That will be a real beauty when it's healthy. Please, keep pics coming.

That is something I would walk away from. The tentacles are skinny and bunched up together. A sign that it has been deflated many times before.
Picture looks like it was taking under halloween lighting. Very hard to tell if it's yellow or green but most likely a bleached green gigantea.

I agree, you should probably walked away from it, it will go green, before it goes yellow... Like I said, a challenge I would love to take on... A real beauty... That one has a chance, but will need close attention in the beginning... If you have ability, I would give it a try. Reality, odds are against long term life... I still say try! :)

...100% STABLE water changes in the beginning... Safest way...

personally, i think it's worth a try. i don't have a green or yellow gig, it was a decent price, and i got to see it before i bought it. the mouth was tight, and it was not deflated when i picked it up. it actually looked just like the pic below. yes, it's bleached though. my first thought when i saw it was a bleached green. time will tell though...

i'm not treating yet because it's hasn't deflated since being in the bag and the mouth is tight. it's not fully expanded, but not deflated either. i will keep in qt and monitor...

not the best pic, but color accurate. it attached to the worst side of the qt for pics. lol :)

the lines/rows of those tentacles tell me sooner o llater you WILL need to treat it. also, it is a severely bleached gig but will recover the color when healthy

what would you define as a defining characteristic that would mean it needs to be treated? i've read open mouth, expelled stomach, deflation, and some people treat every gig that they get in. i was under the impression that if it doesn't totally deflate and the mouth is tight, that there is no need to treat. thoughts?

i admit that it doesn't look the healthiest. i don't think most newly shipped in gigs do. just wondering when it's good to just leave it to recover and when it's time to treat....

updated pic once the lights ramped up... seems to like the environment :)

this is pretty much how it looked at the lfs before i picked it up....

The folding, tentacle length, and slightly open mouth (not gaping) lead me to think that you do not need to treat it -- yet. Just keep an eye on it.

In terms of color, I've never seen a true yellow gigantea. Most are yellowish green, and most would define it as green. However, under certain lighting conditions, they do appear yellow-ish.

i came home, and saw the mouth gaping and some internal flesh coming out... i'm going to medicate with septra tonight at lights out....

sorry for the poor quality cell pic....

Ouch. If you have Cipro, I recommend going with that first. If it doesn't respond to Cipro, then go with the Septra.

agreed... ouch... i do have cipro as well. i will start with it and go from there. thanks. i'll update as it goes...

On your second pic, the lines/rows that the tentacles form is a clear tell-tale sign the nem is sick. I have seen enough online pics based on my reading and personal experience to recognize it when i see it. Also, the semi-pancake look on that same pic added another dimension to IDing a sick gig.

I just looked at your last pic and realized you have it in a basket, is the flow good enough for the nem? the nem needs good flow to help rid of whatever they need to expell.
