Yellow Leather/toadstool brown detiorating tissue

Mangodude

The Clown Tang Keeper!
As title says, I've got a yellow toadstool and some of the outer tissue is turning brown and comes off easily. Its just detiorating. Its the only coral that's not happy in the tank..

Any idea as to what this is or if I should be worried?

I will try to take a pic tomorow..

Thanks!

Depends. Is it just a surface layer of tissue? If so then no worries; leather corals shed regularly, sloughing off a layer of brownish transparent 'skin' when they do.

If it's a localized sloughing off of tissue that leaves an actual indentation in the flesh of the coral, it's most likely a bacterial infection. In leathers these are frequently caused by insufficient flow over the surface of the coral, allowing detritus to collect in low spots on it's surface. The 'clogged' areas become bacterial breeding grounds and the coral starts losing tissue in the affected area, which have the possibility of continuing to spread causing widespread harm and even death.

If it's something different from either of the above scenarios we'll really need to see pics.

Sounds like it.. should i trim around infected areas?

Cutting away the affected tissue (cut around it, including a bit of healthy tissue, to make sure none of it remains) is usually a good idea if that's the case, but I'd suggest posting a pic for confirmation before doing so.

chop er off you got an infection going on. you can also coat that location you cut with iodine. just be easy with it , stuff kills at full strength
