Yellow nephthea ?

I was in my LFS store earlier and they had a bright (really bright) yellow coral. When I asked what it was I was told it was a Nephthea and that it was hard to keep. I've tried doing research and can't find anything on it. Are these hard to keep?

If it's a Nephthea, it shouldn't really be all that hard to keep... However, if it's a Dendronephthea, it would be more difficult. The difference is whether or not it is photosynthetic.

A good picture can help tell the difference between Dendro and non dendro, but separating further (Sinularia, Nephthea, etc.) becomes more difficult (I thDnk you have to look at the spicules under a microscope or something...).

The only TRUE YELLOW neptheas I an aware of are from the Red Sea...

they exsist, but are rare... Most of the time you see pink or green neptheas.

I have a bright yellow tree leather (not sure if it's nepthea or sinularia). It's definitely photosynthetic. I'll try to take a picture of it tomorrow.

Tia, are you referring to an Efflatounaria sp.? If so, sign me up when/if you frag it... I've been looking for this for a while

Testhead1313 - after reading your post again I believe that is a pic of the Efflatounaria sp. you have been looking for. It's beautiful.

I love Effla.... I orded some from Bali, but we recieved cespitularia instead... WHICH IM NOT MAD ABOUT AT ALL!!! haha... we recieved one colony, and its MINE!

I am hopeing to get some Branching Leaf Xenia (efflatounaria)

i bought this guy the other day they told me it was a green Kenya tree (Nephthea) they told me it shouldn't be too hard to keep.

sorry the pic is crappy...his colour at the store was a hundred times greener, plus my camera doesnt do it any justice...it is a fair bit greener thent he pic shows..

they told me it wasnt photosynthetic...so i put him in a nice high flow area and feed it some zooplankton..it seems to be considerably happier in higher flow areas. i need to get a new MH ballast to really show the colours.

she stands about 4 inches tall...i figured that wasnt too bad for 30 bucks

Im no expert, but that looks like Lemnalia, possibly?... paralemnalia?... it doesnt look like Neptheas Ive seen

i am certainly no expert...and i took thier word for it...big beginner mistake...

i googled the two you mentioned and both species only list brown yellow and tan varieties..

when mine is closed up and not extended it is a flouresent blue-green

the more i look at it the more i think it may be photosynthetic though...

that scares me as my MH isnt up and running yet..

Hi guys, sorry for the tease earlier... That is indeed Efflatounaria sp., but not in my tank. I have never seen one for sale in an LFS, online, or on the boards - actually, I've never seen it mentioned before, although Alderslade and Fabricus state that it can be the dominant coral on some reefs. LMK if anyone finds some.
