yellow polyps

can anyone tell me why the yellow polyps are hard to keep? they are the ones with long pointy sweeping tentacles. I feed these things and yet they still crash.
I havent lost the entire colony it has just thinned out. my params a perfect and these are the only ones not doing well. any suggestions?

I've never really had any luck with those myself. Try checking the zoanthid forum, there should be a lot of information there reguarding pests. (sundial snails, nudibranchs, etc)

That's my guess. As soon as I started to keep my tank levels good enough for Sps, mine slowly melted away

ahh, yes I think you may be onto something. zoas do like dirtier water.

most testing is done via my apex reef computer. if you go to http://www.reeftronics.net/ you will find my name "ben w" at the top of the screen, then click on "apex status" you will see all params with graphs and all. Otherwise other params are tested via salifert so:

wow nice graphs, and I will agree with the water being to clean, when I had a softie tank my nitrates were up around 20ppm and everything grew like crazy and looked beautiful, as soon as I switched to SPS and my nitrates and po4 went to 0 everything started to look dull, so now they all ended up at a zoo

Mine do fine, & all parameters are in check. Probably is a tank by tank situation. Obviously, they are a photosynthetic coral, so adaptive light with respect to their zooanthanelle production levels, should be minded.

hmnnn I do have 250 hqi's and my tank is shallow 18"

I too have the same problem with them. Everything else grows like weeds but yet, the yellow have thinned out on their own rock. I've even tried moving it around the tank. Nothing seems to work.
