Hello!

I bought this Yellow Seabae Anemone with Purple Tips yesterday. From the LFS I bought it from in Miami, FL, it looked healthy. After purchasing it, I had acclimated it for an hour and a half. It went smooth and I dug a hole within the sand bed for it to try to sit. It did eventually grab that location as the base of it expanded and attached to the glass. The main lights were off. Only the moon lights were on. My lights eventually came on the next day it looked like the following.

Here are the pictures showing it when it was fully opened.

After two hours of daylight, it started to shrink and this is what it looks like.

As you can see, the bottom base is attached. The tentacles seem to be thick and not thin. I really could not see the mouth due to its angle. But I noticed that when I tried feeding it frozen brine shrimp, its tentacles did not grab the food with a grip. When the flow came back on, then the food literally just floated from it.

I did research and every situation is different. My tank is refreshed from its old setup as it gave me problems. I waited about two months of a cycle with parameters close to perfect. Below are the tank specs and additions.

JBJ 28G Advanced LED
MP10
2 Snowflake Pair
Zoas
Duncans
Frogspawn (Baby)
Green Star Polyps.

Parameters, I dont have exact figures but I had gotten my water tested from my local LFS who uses Redsea Max and said everything looked good.

Nothing major as you can see from the list. I am just concerned about the anemone and do not want my tank to fail because of it.

Thanks everyone,

The good news is its not totally gone and might recover. The bad news is it is dyed and has a long road ahead of it. No naturally occurring sebae has that color so expect it to turn a more tan/white color in ths future. The purple tips are natural and should remain if it lives. Good luck! They are wonderful anemones once settled in.

Thanks for the feedback! After doing research I had concluded that but did not want to hear it, so to speak lol. But, LFS will probably give me a hard time returning it. Most likely I will keep it and bring the invert back to its original state. I am going to research what I should feed it, but any suggestions to help bring it back to its original form?

P.S: Its fully open now, blooming. So that is a relief. :)

I wouldn't feed it right away. Let it settle in first. Most of the sebae (heteractis crispa) anemones I have kept prefer to attach to rocks as well.

Yea, leave it be and with good husbandry it will recover.. Don't feed it, and as WinWood said, let it attach to some rocks. Sadly, I see a lot of those around our parts, and even some that are dyed full on yellow with the purple tips.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Well as of this morning, it actually did detach itself from the glass. It went to back of my tank where LR is, but I did not like the location for it since it is not visible. So instead, I moved it to the side of the my tank where LR is as well. It seems good for now as its blooming again. When I get home, I will analyze it further.

On the side note: It is really sad to hear and see dyed inverts. After doing research late last night I wanted to give backlash to the store I bought it from..

Well forum, as of this morning my snowflake pair hosted the Seabae. Now need to make sure it is healthy and have a long term goal.. Thanks again everyone!
