Anyone ever keep these fish? How hardy are they? What is their life expectancy? And do they hide a lot or will they stay out in the open in a small shoal? Was thinking about picking up 3 of these guys.

Yes, I bought 7 from LA 2 weeks ago. So far only one has died mysteriously, all ate immediately. These fish actually stay out in the open 90% of the time for me, in the beginning they were always shoaling but now they only shoal when I sit near the tank (as they think it is feeding time).
My tank has a Yellow Tang, Flame Angel, Green Mandarin, 2 red firefish, and a spotted cardinal. The only negative is they are such ferocius eaters that its hard for some of the fish to get any mysis since they are gobbled up so rapidly. In the end, everyone gets to eat but I have to feed more than normal.

I had one that only made it two years, not sure why, maybe they do better in a group. Mine stayed out all the time. Voracious eater. Probably not too popular because many think they look like a freshwater fish.
