yellow stripes do battle

Wasn't a pretty sight. Bought another yellow stripe maroon clown placed it in with my existing yellow stripe and they fought like cat and mouse. I was fianally able to pull the new one out and put it in the refugium-which lately seems to act more like an overflow tank. Both were pretty torn up. They are both about the same size. Was this a mistake-getting the same size? Or does it mean they are just not compatable? Will they ever be compatable? Any feedback would be appreciated.

they were both the same size .. the both same LARGE size? if they're both large, than they're female maroon clowns. If they're both tiny, like approximately an inch long, than they're probably both juveniles, males, fighting for dominance to see who gets to be female. If they're both large females, they will never be compatible. If they're both tiny, they probalby will be compatible given time. The thing is to get a large female and a tiny maroon clown who will submit and be the male. Check up the sticky thread up here about pairing maroons (pretty different from pairing regular clowns b/c they are just so darn VIOLENT!) good luck! :)

get a very small maroon clown juvie would be preferred, that is if you have a large one already.

adding a same sized maroon into an established maroons territory(tank) is a big no no.

i agree with the above statement, also get a critter tote from a pet store and put the new arrival in it to see how the other reacts before releasing it into the tank.

I had thought that the same size wouldn't work but yellow stripes are not commonly seen where I live so I made the mistake of getting the second at the same size. They are both juvis. I have the new arrival in the fuge and will probably get a LTA I have been eyeing. Thanks for the info.
