Yellow sun coral

Ohhh....I only bought one the smaller one. They seem pretty resiliant. I fed 'em frozen brine. Is that ok or should i do something different

So the fact i paid $45.00 for a racquetball size tubastrea (sun polyp) was a pretty good deal? As for feeding, i alternate rotifers, DT's and mysis mysis mysis!!! Feed during the day and it will bloom during the day.

cichlidnutz, you got a good deal for your sun coral. Everyone is saying surfsharkus got a great deal because he found 5+ heads of dendros locally for 150....that comes out to 30 a polyp, thats a really good deal. Dendros are harder to find than tubastreas.

surfsharkus, feed it mysis and it should do well. Feed at least 2-3 times a week.

you have to spot feed sun coral---I use a turkey baster and mysis shrimp---when the polyps are out they are hungry.
I saw a cool alternate to this -----they took a plastic water bottle and put some small holes in it----they add the mysis shrimp and but it over the sun coral until it is finished eating--stops the other critters from getting the food. I don't use this method because my reef is in the way--he has his sun coral on the bottom substrate.

I pull my tubastrea out of the tank to feed. Put it in a tub of water to cover it then surround it with a 1-liter bottle that i cut the end off. It holds the food close and any excess goes to the other corals when i put it back. (also keeps the cleaner shrimp from stealing everything) works great

submerge the tub and bring it out gently already submerged. Then give it about 30 minutes to feed. It will surprise you.

Man, were we hungry!

bluewatr24, sun coral is more of an encrusting colonial coral while dendros are/can be a solitary coral and are also much larger and have huge tentacles, not really skirts like sun coral.

Also, how much did you pay for that? That is a great deal if it was for $150, you even have budds coming up, thats like 10 polyps, for 150, even for 250 is an okay deal.

Awesome deal! Don't let it die now :-D

Keep it well fed and you can start fragging for the local people.

It seems to have tons of babies that we didn't see yesterday.

What place is this in Sac? I'm near Sac

they had about 2-4 frags left @ exotic aquarium on franklin and 47th in the south area. I think its a great store! They ate for the first time awhole cube of frozen brine aside from the few that the skunk and gobie ate.
