Yellow Tang and Copperband Butterfly

Today I moved my Copperband Butterfly to my main display from my Coral Propagation tank. The Copperband had completely eradicated some Aptasia from my Coral Prop tank, and since I noticed a few Aptasia in my Main Display I decided to move her over there to clean them up.

Well, my Yellow Tang has been very aggressive towards the Copperband. Is this natural? The Yellow Tang has never been this aggressive towards new fish before. How long will it take for the Yellow Tang to leave the Copperband alone?

Thanks,

Dave

It is normal yellow tangs will be a little agressive in a tank they have been in for a while. What size tank do you have? ina large enough tank it will eventually stop

Thanks,

I will just keep an eye on them. This has never happened before, the Tang has always been very peaceful. Fortunately, the move from one tank to another was not stressful otherwise since the system is all tied together, the water is the same. No acclimation necessary. The Copperband is eating fine, and is just hiding out from the Tang when the Tang starts chasing it. There are plenty of hiding places so it does not have to be constantly on the run.

I am just anxious for it to get to work on the Aiptasia.

Every fish is diferent. Just be prepared to remove one fish if this continues. I had a YT kill several butterflies that I tried adding to a FO tank. I eventually had to take the YT back to the LFS.

hth, and good luck.

I had to remove the Copperband and put her back in the Coral Prop tank... she was getting beat up pretty bad, and her tail was starting to get chewed up.... I guess I am going to get a dozen Peppermint Shrimp this week... I have two in there, but they are not keeping up. They are eating some, but there are too many now.

my main fish is a CBB and cant keep any tangs with it........tryed a purple in my 90 which isnt running anymore and he tore the CBB up ditto for a yellow...they just beat him up....had the CBB for over 2 years now so he will stay and anything that messes with him answers to me....

yellow tang--------bandwagon fish

CBB put him in there and flush the tang is what i say

My YT killed my CBB in two days. None of the other Tangs cared about the CBB they didn't even notice him. IME anything that has a similar shape to another Zebrasoma will be attacked.

Good luck with the aptaisia. I have been battling them ever since I lost my CBB. I have about a dozen peppermint shrimp but they don't really keep up.

The only fish my YT hasn't attacked when I put them in was a bursa trigger. The trigger just bit him right back and all the aggression stopped. It was pretty funny. Now they are best friends!
