Yellow Tang Attacking Maroon clownfish..

Well lately my maroon has had patchy fins and I've been wondering why. Today I witnessed an attack, my clown was drifting away from his anemone, and my yellow tang swam over and bit a chuck out of his fin. The maroon, which is usually agressive, just turned around and presented his fins to the tang, and didn't even seem bothered by the fact it was biting them. Is this normal? Is my clown confused or just curious? This is a recent development, and I've underfed my tang for a couple days because I've been so busy, so maybe that's the reason.

The Tang is 4-5 inches long, the clown is aobut an inch shorter. They've been in the same tank for almost a year.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

yellow tangs are usually good tank mates. I'd evaluate the diet you are feeding both fish after you separate them with a partition for a while.

I've started to notice my yellow displaying similar aggession towards my maroon. The tang will swim by the nem and will tail swat at the maroon on almost every ocassion. Just started noticing this behavior in the last few days and thought it was just his bad attitude. Hoping things will calm down as I really don't have the space to put in a divider. If anyone else has some input that would be great.
