Yellow Tang extremely docile..........

Not sure what is going on but. My yellow tang is not alert and not swimming around the aquarium. He looks totally healthy but he sits in one corner and doesn't move from that spot. He also quit eating. He is not laying on his side as if he were sick though.

The only thoughts I have are......

1. I have a purple tang that has some fins that looked nipped but I have yet to see them fighting since a year ago when I first introduced them.

2. Put a brand new elegance coral in the aquarium last night in the same area the yellow tang sleep. Could he have been stung. Their are no marks on his body. If so will he recover from a sting.

id think theres a possibility he may have been stung. wither way you said hes not eating, maybe try mysis mixed in with garlic or tiger pods or artic pods to entice him to eat. this may help it may not. btw all the foods stated would also be excellent for the elegance.

I have been trying to give him mysis, in garlic with vitamin C. No luck. He looks as if he is a vegitable hovering in the water. The only signs of alertness are that he will turn sideways and let a cleaner wrass pick at him. I hope he will come out of it soon.

Are you parameters good..especially nitrates. My yellow tank always gets goofy when something is off.. usually nitrates. hth

he does seem to be breathing fast. I think my parameters are in great shape. The purple tang does seem to be a little more aggressive today than he has been in the past but they are not fighting. I am thinking about moving him to a quarantine tank and using copper. I do not know how to do hypo or I would. Any other suggestions. He hasn't eaten since Friday that I know. I was not in town Saturday or Sunday though.

My experience would tell me has been getting beat up by the purple tang but I am around them all day and they don't fight. I have also watched at night and no fighting. I wounder if when they first wake up in the morning they fight. Both had nipped tails and dorsals last week but they are healing. What about hermit crabs nipping them at night. I have one neon blue hermit that lives in your average size mexican turbo snail but he just isn't that big. Other suggestions?

I went ahead and put my purple tang in a qt. Already the yellow is moving around the aquarium a little more. Also at just a little today. Not sure what I will do with the purple but he is a little to aggressive I guess for my tank. If anyone in the area is interested let me know. It is a good fish in good condition. fish stop eating is never a good thing imo. Try changing to smaller food particles like cyclops.
Do you suspect he has ich? I would not dose my fish with a treatment if I dont know what cause it yet
