Hey i have had 2 yellow tangs in the past and both have passed away. i have a blue hippo and its grown and doin great. I heard yellow tangs are hard to keep any suggestions on how to keep one would be apprecaited

I heard the exact opposite that yellows are one of the easiest to take care of. If you can take care of a hippo which is one of the more finicky tangs a yellow should be no problem. Just make sure to acclimate correctly and offer a wide varietyvof foods

yellow tangs are my nemisis fish, i have tried them several times, i have tried them with several tank mate combinations and alone and every size other than tiny/little/smaller than small and i have never surpassed 4 weeks and i can keep any other fish i have attempted including moorish idol and powder blue tang but not yellow tangs and all 3 of my tanks are 6 or 7 footers.

i broke all my rules and bought a tinny yellow tang still in the shipping bag at a lfs 2.5 hours away (one way) and in 3 weeks it has almost doubled in size and shows no sign of problems and will only eat nori or pick at the rocks it will completley ignore all prepared foods infact it will run from the prepared foods and i know iam gonna get flamed for this but it went directly into the DT

May I suggest reading the articale on wetwebmedia.com

Generally, I have always found yellow tangs to be hardy and easy to care for - I have always had one for the last 10-12 years or so.

The usual things apply - get a good one, make sure he is q-tined properly, feed the correct diet and make sure he isn't bullied, and finally ensure that water quality is ok...... aside from that, I would consier them a beginners fish and very hardy - which suggests to me that either (a) your yellow tangs have been bullied to death, or (b) your source is supply you with bad fish.
