my dad bought 2 yellow tangs, (of course i told him it woudn't work out in his 40 gal) and one is now dominiant over the other.

the 'weaker' one is being confined to one section of the tank, and now he's turning a pale yellow color. is this is symptom related to stress?

if anything i'm going to help my pop's get this guy out of his tank.

yes, its from stress, when my clown is stressed her colors turn pale, they ussually go back to normal when she isnt stressed, get one of them out of the tank

they are small to medium sized....wondering if i should take it off my dad's hands. not sure if it will get along with my female maroon clown....my tank is doign well and i don't want any fighting

Yellow Tangs are generally schooling fish when mixed with their own kind... mixing with other tangs, like yellow and purple = bad. Like most animals, they establish a pecking order when they are staking out their new home, and your fish might be doing that. I would give it a little time to adjust and come to a copesetic arrangement before overreacting just yet. If things get worse, and you see missing fins, or obvious signs of majot stress (ich, not eating, etc.) then you can pull one (or both) and go from there.

My maroons and my yellow tangs do not bother each other at all, so I think you are safe if you want to take one off his hands. Good luck!

The weaker will die more than likely. The stronger will be stressed and unhappy in a tank that size. I have one in a 100 Gallon and he can get from one end to the other in a flash. 100g is a little confining but he's old, busy and happy.
