Yellow Tang thread

Hows the aggression of this trio of yellow tangs is it split up among themselves or does the aggression affect the other fish in your tank?

I enjoy relaying the info.
I enjoy watching the interactions of all my fishes.
Earlier today my Kleinii Butterfly was posturing for a cleaning by the Green Chromis. To my amazement, one of the smaller Chromis cleaned him!
(I've never heard of this before.)

The trio of Yellow Tangs stick together at times and it's very kewl. They usually get along really well but sometimes a squabble will break out. I don't believe there is one single dominent one among the three.

The YT's know that the Achilles and Powder Blue are always watching for a chance to hit them. With their high vertical profile, Zebrasoma are more maneuverable than the more elongated Acanthurus Tangs and they're usually able to avoid them. (Similar to many Butterflyfish that can turn on a dime.)

Plus the Zebrasoma stick close to coral cover. They know the "safe zones" in my aquarium.

I recently made an impulse buy and acquired three zebrasomas too (mine have yellow pectoral and tail fins ;)). They have 7 more weeks in QT before going into the display tank. I hope it works out!

Glad their still workin out Gary! Awesome additions!

Can you elaborate on how you qt'd separately???

it's a little over one year since I added them and they're definitely fatter, bigger and getting along BETTER

1 year successful!!!! has it continued? my guess it would, after a month or so.... do you have any suggestions or thoughts why it worked?? maybe other larger, more dominant fish? i tried 3 yellows two years ago with no luck, now i'm thinking my hippo and pt will keep the yellows in line and not kill each other? imo, 3 is a hard number, 7 would be better; but my tank is to small.

old thread revival alert!

old thread revival alert!

Hi! Yes- all 3 of my yellows are still with me and they are better looking than ever.
Two appear to be an item and the other seems to be a third wheel. Very nice fish.
A large aquarium with plenty of food and many hiding places can help one maintain multiples of this species IME... but its never a guarantee!
