Yellow Watch Goby Disease -Expert Thoughts

I have a yellow watchman goby. I have a good understanding about reef aquariums. I have a 30g tank and have add nothing to the tank, water is pristine condition. The goby is 2 years old and has been extremely healthy for 2 years. A few weeks ago, he started to spit out food and appears to have a sunken abdominal area. He has not passed any feces. He wants to eat and is very active at feeding time, yet spits out food. My question is can this be a parasite, old age or something yet to be scientifically discovered with this species. I have him in quarantine and using parzipro. Has anyone scene this condition with a long term fish that has been kept. Thoughts???

If nothing was added within 3 or more months, a parasite infection is rather unlikely.

I would also exclude old age as the associated decay would rather be gradual and over a much longer period.

It might be bacterial, like a stomach infection.

Another possibility might be a swallowed pebble that blocks the upper gastric tract.

Lastly it could be a tumor in the stomach or gastric tract.

So I observed goby last night an noticed a small string, like filter mater from his rectal area. It got me thinking that he may have had a blockage. I removed the fish from the tank and placed him on his side and with a Q tip, I managed to find the string as scene before. To my surprise I removed what is pictured. Appears to be stool that is very hard, calcified fecal material from the rectal area. I returned him to the tank and only hope at this point the trauma from removal is not the end to him. I think this is interesting and maybe a lesson to what we may use as filter materials.

ThRoewer - you are correct as to the blockage.

Thank you for the information

I have had a similar issue with a clown that had some blockage. I crushed up some peas very small and fed him. You may try, it's suppose to help
