Yellow watchman goby breeding and mandarin breeding

I have come to find out over the past year that it is rare to have a breeding pair of ywg and even more rare to have the fry survive any length of time. And so far to my knowledge from hours of research there is no such thing as a captive bred ywg. Many have tried. Even more strange is my tank holds a pair of ywg and a breeding pair of mandarins. Which is just crazy to imagine

Unfortunately I don't think spawning pairs of yellow watchman gobies is rare at all. I know several people with them and I think they were captive bred nearly 20 years ago.
A few companies have released captive raised watchmen, such as ora http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3354+3353+3428&pcatid=3428

It's also very common to have spawning mandarins, its actually harder to not have them spawning assuming they are well fed.

Please don't let this diminish the pride you have. It is very nice to hear that your fish are doing so well that they are happy and healthy enough to breed. It's also refreshing to see someone keeping fish in pairs.

Ok so 2 companies out of the many have had success. Do you know anyone that is a normal person that has success breeding them.
It's also very rare in my area to see a ywg in a fish store and never a captive bred

I know of at least two breeders who have bred ywgs and, in addition to the companies mentioned above, Proaquatix and I believe C-Quest have also bred them.

As with many other gobies, they require a little more work than clownfish, but are really feasible to breed successfully with the right setup.

Spawning mandarins are very common as Moort said. If you have a pair that eat well, they will spawn. I had a pair of green mandarins that I caught spawning just by chance before I was a breeder. Very cool to watch and there should be a lot of videos out there of different people who have spawning pairs. Right now Biota is raising tons of mandarins.

I had a spawning pair of mandarins in the early 2000's had them for 5 years until the aquarium flooded my house. Most of the fish had to be rehomed in smaller tanks on hand and others traded for store credit.
They used to spawn around 11 under moonlight quite frequently.

Congrats non the less it means their need are being met.

I'm not sure what tank you have but I've had spawning mandarins and scooter dragonets in mine. I gave them to a friend because I felt my tank was too shallow at 18" and the poor things would hit the screen at the top of their spawn. They now breed daily in her tank.

I've also had gobies spawn but not tried to raise them. In my case it is orange spot gobies and to the best of my knowledge they are still doing it but at the back of my tank.

But like I said before, just because others have done it or witnessed the same behaviour doesn't mean it's not an achievement or interesting.

ORA offers both mandarins and watchman captive bred... but its still cool that you have these fish breeding in your tank
