Yellow Watchman Goby Question

Aren't they usually burrowers? Have had one for a couple days now, just chilling on the sand, no burrowing. I've had an orange spotted goby before that did burrow, never had a YWG before. Is this normal?

i've had mine for 3 years now and it has never borrowed.. just moves around on the sand from place to place.... lisa

IME watchman gobies don't know how to actually build their own burrow. That's what the shrimp is for ;)

I remember in my old tank, my poor little randall's goby sat in the corner, getting pounded by a pseudochromis, simply because he couldn't build his own burrow. I added a shrimp, and all was good.

i agree with what SDguy said, if i had added a shrimp i'm sure he would of had a burrow to reside in.. i just didn't want the sand kicked around my a shrimp so i "deprived" the goby.
all is well though, he has done fine without a partner, there was only a pair of clowns and leopard wrasses in there with him so he was never been threatened... :)

Mine dug himself a little burrow. Then he disappeared a few days later, never to be seen again. :(

Mine is a pain in the A$$. He never comes out since I moved him to the 90 gallon. He does dig all his own burrows under the rocks though.

Mine was a digger.

I say "was" because he ended up jumping out of the tank.

Make sure to keep your tank covered to keep them from carpet surfing.

How did your guys' gobies dig their burrows? Did they actually grab mouthfulls of sand, then turn around and carry it away from the burrow, and spit the sand out? Was there already some sort of opening there that was expanded upon?
