Yellow water

I added clarity. My first filter sock went from white to brown. I swapped it out and it's turning brown as well. The water looks more clear but still have a yellow tint almost green. I have noticed the rocks are turning a yellow/brown color with little things on the rock that are also in the corners of the tank. Am I going through some kind of algea bloom?

If the water is clear (no particulate), but yellow, try running activated carbon (as these guys have said) or something to chemically pull the color out. Carbon should clear it up the yellow in a day. It doesn't look like Clarity will do anything about color, just the cloudiness.

As for algae, your tank is 3 weeks old now, and you are in primetime for diatoms, algae, and potentially cyano. It's going to happen, as it does with everyone's new tank. It'll pass. Let things run their course.

Have you done any water testing for Ammonia/Nitrites/Nitrates?

I've been running carbon pads and carbon in mesh bags. Going to run the the store today to get a reactor to use. I have been testing and right now I'm at 0 for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates.

I don't think you need a reactor. Just keep running it passively. Things will clear. This is a hobby of patience.

Just an update. Tuesday I got a really good deal on two reactors from someone local and put one on the tank with carbon for the last two days. Water is crystal clear and no discoloration. I wished I had gone with a bigger sump or had pipes ran to my basement. Maybe next year as thing progress.
