Yellow wrasse, Bird wrasse

Hi, finally found yellow corie wrass to help deal with some Zoo eating Nudis. any info on them would be greatly appreciated. is it safe to get two of them or will they beat on each other?
I'm also very interested in bird wrasses. I wanted to get a male but could never find one. there are actually at a LFS 2 femles are they reefsafe fish? will they eat any shrimps or munch on any corals? are they safe to keep with the yellow corie wrasses?
does the addition of Wrasses consume podes from the tank or would it still be possible to add a mandarin afterwards?

Bird wrasses won;t hurt your sessile inverts, but they will make a quick meal of any other inverts like shrimp etc. They will not harass the yellow coris.

The bird wrasse does not eat pods AFAIK. Just make sure your tank is large. My old 125g was way too small for my bird wrasse.

yellow coris wrsses are reef safe, sometimes you can mix them, some times you cant. bird wrasses are not reef safe. the wrasse will eat some of the critters in your tank, but will also eat food you offer, depending if you dont feed much, you may still be able to do a manderin depending on what amount of life you have in your tank. i personally have a yellow coris wrasse, two carpenter wrasses, a filimented wrasse, a six line wrasse and a manderin, but i have a 265 reef. but i dont have a dsb or a fuge on the tank either (because they are bad.) im not willing to risk my tank so my fish have more critters to eat

I have never seen my bird wrasse eat any snails. But that does not mean much...

My old yellow coris wrase was EVIL, he would bully fish much larger than it. One day it was gone and I was stoked! Oh yeah I hope you never decide to try and remove it, because you will never catch it! They bury in sand, hide in under rock. I even moved my tank across town withe the coris wrase still in it. I just gave up on trying to ketch em.
And no that was not when it disappeared.

Datablitz would you care to detail your thinking on fuges and DSB?

He may have had a bad experience with the DSB and Fuge.

Over the last 3 years I have had nothing but good experience with them.

i have seen dozens of tanks suffering from an assortment of problems with a DSB, and after removing the DSB, the tank is fine. if you look around on here, you will find all sorts of people that have had their tank crash due to the sandbed. i have personally seen it well over 12 times in different tanks with differet owners. some are display tanks with a DSB some are ssb tanks with dsb fuges, they all end up with problems. there is no doubt that a sand bed can crash a tank, and with that in mind, why would anyone want to risk their tank for one? i have never seen a tank that is maintianed correctly crash with a ssb in it. i cant say that about a dsb. i dont have nitrates in my tank, my fish dont starve, i do a small water change every 2 weeks. i dont have a fuge, a skimmer, or a dsb. yea, a skimmer would help my tank, but why would anyone want a dsb if it could cause problems? seems like almost every dsb tank setup over a year has algae problems, and generally people put phos reactors on them, to help. why fix it with a bandaid, and just not have one to begin with.

I hate the sand naysayers, they seem so close minded. I can show you hundreds of tanks that are DSB or SSB that have no algae issues and no phosphate reactors or whatever you feel is a bandaid.

I've seen some nice BB tanks as well, but a lot more with sand .

sorry, i guess i didnt mention it, im not against sand, just DSB. my tank is SSB

DSBs develop necrotic areas, if these get disturbed by anything, it wreaks havok on the tank.

there are so many people that have issues with their tank because of a DSB, there is just so much more of a risk involved, its not worth it.

My tank has been running for 10 years with a DSB a refugium and a skimmer. my refugium was never really successful as I rarely have too much growth in culerpa to start pruning it. Never had hair alga problems, never had any sever losses. I even left the tank with minimal maintenance over the last 2.5 years when I relocated and all that time the tank only got around 3-4 water changes. did loose few corals and 4 fish that I had for so long however I don't think I had any sever tank crash. Anyway is it possible to keep any shrimps if the wrass is kept well fed at all times or is it a fact that he will just attack any shrimp that goes in the tank? thanks for all the replies so far.

I cant say as far as shrimp go, but I'm sure the one I had would have killed any shrimp, except for the huge coral banded I use to have? Gave it to the LFS for free.
