Hello folks,

Tank is fully cycled for a few days now and fishless still, just CUC. Yesterday I noticed this yellow/brown stuff on one side of the sand bed against the glass. I assume this is part pf the ugly stages but...what is it?

thanks!

Thanks mc, anything I can do to alleviate it? Stir the sand a bit in that portion? Would it go by itself or should I get a special CUC member, my current ones do not dive into the sandbed.

Diatoms go away on their own in time. Certain cleanup crew members eat diatoms, but no reason for you to do anything.

Just leave it.. its normal.. Its going to go away on its own.
Relax...

In general its not a bad idea to have some sand sifting creatures like nassarius snails/cucumbers,etc... along with the normal bristle worms and various other microfauna

nassarius will spend their time in the sand..and you usually only see their snouts They will "rise like the phoenix" from the sand to hunt it down newly introduced food..
Neat little buggers.

Mine seem to be having a beach day above sand and hiking on the rocks..hope I didn't get the ones with disorder of personality.
