Yes another custom tank

This is definitely not a DIY for the Average Joe. It takes mucho skill, solid equipment, and would cost a fair amount of money to replicate because it uses 3/8's acrylic on every piece! You would not want to screw up a project like this ... better left to professionals!

You have to remember that this is a Show/Contest Tank ... at NanoReefs.com

Thanks!

I'll get everything hidden but it won't be through the wall... My wife would kill me. :)

How about some wiremold or at least painting the cables to blend with the wall? Seems a shame that you've designed such clean tank but the left cables exposed and stark like that.

kinda been lurking for a week or two here. guess it is time to come out and say hi, but anyway...

i love the design of your tank. it looks wonderful and i am looking forward to seeing what kind of cabinet you will put under it :)

Thanks for posting! :) As soon as I can find a little time, I'll get started on the cabinet.

So is this a DIY for the average joe, or not? I love the design. If you was to sell something like this, what would you ask?

Thanks,
Eric

Hard to say, it depends on how handy you are... Because it's 3/8" I'd have to ask about 250 if I were to sell it.

Thanks for the idea Tex and no offense but what part of the previous posts do you not get? I will be building a cabinet to cover everything other than the tank... Sorry if I sound on edge but everyone seems to be focusing on the darn cables more than the tank. As I've said previously they will be covered as soon as I get a little bit of free time.

Yea apparantly you haven't mentioned the cabinet enough ;)

Folks need to read the thread before they post ... simple as that! You don't step into the ring with Ali just cuz you think you can box :lol2:

"He knows i can box!" oh wait... that was a fast and the furious reference right? hahaha

ps: chocolateblnt, ur avatar is gangstaaa. haha :D

wow, amazing set up calvin, everything looks so clean and purpose build, makes me sad i scratched my 48" long nano tank while moving and never set it up, then made a new cube tank

check you the DIY link on the homepage, it has lots of sites about acrylic, i made my own tank too, you just got to plan out and tank and every step carefully. plus having someone to cut the plexi glass sheets into the right size helps alot. everything else is just technique and patcience.

if i can build a custom acrylic tank from my own plan first try by myself, and with minmal investment, without messing up i think almost anyone can. i thought it wouldent be my thing because im not much of a DIY person either, everytihng seems to turn out really shabby lookin beacuse of my unsteady hand. i just suggest you get all the peices cut by a professional and know what you doing and take your time and think things thorught, because when your building with acrylic everything has to go together in a certain order or else you will have on hell of a time getting it it together and looking good. i saved over 100$ not having the monkeys working in my local acrylic shop not puting it together, because knowing them it would have been wrong and looked worse, like ther first tank i had them put together, sigh all i gotta say is it was 75$ il never get back.:(

Hey Eric,
I am jealous! You want to make me a tank from scratch since my 40 is being such a #%&#$(* ????? Looks very very good. I can't wait until you actually start your biz. I will be buying from you! =) This 40, I am just ready to give up. Pumps are too loud, my sump cracked, the stand wasn't level, my first ro di unit broke during shipping, my skimmer broke on the way here. Has anyone else had these problems? Jeez. I just want to get it finished and up! I just want to put some water in it! Maybe someone is telling me to give up? =*( There's been more problems, but why bother with it on such a good thread. I really like your nano. I am looking forward to the style cabinet you choose to make. If someone in Spokane offered to build me a system, I'd pay em. Sheesh! I am just so frustrated. Can't wait to see what it looks like. You did such an excellent job. God bless.

So can we see this tank you built? Also how did you build it by yourself when others cut stuff out for you .. that's DINBY (Do It Not By Yourself) You say it's easy and then you spend the rest of the paragraph explaining what can go wrong and how you have to really spend time thinking about it and certain order ... sounds like an oxymoron.

Chocolate and Mex, you guys are too funny! :)

Thanks! If you want something built just let me know... Sorry to hear about your trials, I assure you it's well worth it in the end. :) Keep your head up and take it one step at a time, everything good happens slow in this hobby so your tank should be great when you get it running! ;)

WOW!! That is really cool! Nice aquascaping too!

Thanks for all the feedback and keeping me laughing, you guys are awesome!

Got it. I generally have so little time that I just skim through posts. Must have missed that.

No prob, I was just really short fused yesterday. Didn't mean to take it out on you. :)

naw, not only did the plexi glass people build it really uneven on the top edge, it got really scratched up when i moved, plus i chopped up a bit of it to make some acrylic fill to finish my tank, so i set up my new custom cube, you can check the link at the bottom of my post if you wish. i was trying to make a very clean type show set up, but i doubt i could ever think up something as crazy as your set up. but once i get my hood build and possibly a sump cover it will look much cleaner.
So can we see this tank you built? Also how did you build it by yourself when others cut stuff out for you .. that's DINBY (Do It Not By Yourself) You say it's easy and then you spend the rest of the paragraph explaining what can go wrong and how you have to really spend time thinking about it and certain order ... sounds like an oxymoron.
some of that paragraph was about how poorly my local plexi shop built my tank. warning him about the poor workmenship of other people who sometimes dont care very much and just wanna go to lunch so they slap everything together without care or love :D
and well i did every myself i could afford, like you said in another post the right saws and all that jazz to cut the plexiglass right is quite expensive, sort of out of my budget, being only 18 and all, and only having my bike to pack stuff around. DIY is about making someting thats cheaper then from a store but works the same or better.also its not really an oxymoron i was saying its easy, which it was, but if you dont plan, rush, and dont think ahead things can go very wrong, like in almost anything to do with aquariums, the rest of that was trying to warn him of the only real obsicals i ran into, because he was looking for some infor and i never really found many tips on the acctaul assembely process. im planning on building my own hood too! and get the peices cut at the hardware store! as far as im converned thats DIY and if its not i guess i am a DINBY! :p BC's custom
