I have been trying to set my tank up with low electricity being priority. Would it be a good idea to use the feed pump for my recirculating skimmer to feed a carbon (phosban reactor) reactor first? That way I wouldn't need an extra pump to run some carbon. It would feed the carbon reactor then the skimmer. The skimmer will still get all the raw water, but it will go through carbon first. Any thoughts???

If you feed the skimmer directly from the overflow, you would eliminate the 2nd stronger pump. Then you only need a very small powerhead to feed the 2 reactors.

You dont want carbon before the skimmer. Carbon removes DOCs which is what you want the skimmer to do. You could have the skimmer output drain through a media chamber instead.

I don't feed the skimmer directly because the fitting on the skimmer is small. I don't want a 1.25 pipe going into a .5 pipe. I have the feed pump in the first section of the sump with the incoming water. I could try and utilize the incoming water better. I don't know how well it would work if I tee off the incoming plumbing. Send some of it into the carbon reactor and the rest into the sump. Any suggestions?

To set up the overflow to feed the skimmer, you need to T it off anyway and do a little extra pluming to avoid surging. It may be something to research if you are really looking at cutting back on electricity. Could save not only in electric costs, but the initial cost of the pump as well.

There was a good thread in the deltec forum within the last year that had some good pics and diagrams.

Thanks, I will check that out. By the way, I have all the equipment already. I am rebuilding my setup after taking a year off. I am trying to eliminate as much equipment as possible.
