Yet another bracing question.

Hey guys, I did a pretty extensive search, but didnt come across anything which directly answered my question.

Im in the process of ordering my new tank, 60"x36"x30", and am wondering about the bracing. Id absolutely love to stick with eurobrace, but Im not sure its going to be possible. My tank builder only uses up to 1/2" glass (long story).

I have looked at a few glass thickness calculators, which give a safety factor of 2.5ish for a rimless 30" tall tank in 1/2". Would a double thickness eurobrace, say 4" wide (for a total of a 1" thick, 4" wide eurobrace), be sufficient for a tank of this size? Or should I just deal with it and get a crossbrace installed?

Thanks guys.
Danny

Cheers mate. Im confident that it would be fine on a 24" tall tank like yours, Im just concerned about the extra 6" in height. Im hoping the double euro would solve any potential problems, but want to triple check first :)

Yea, the double will surely be fine. I really think a single would do fine as well but there is never anything wrong with overbuilding :)

Another option is to buy 3/4" braces and have him install them or do it yourself. I built my tank and if you search my username for started threads you will find the build log. It shows how I installed the bracing. It was pretty easy.

My tank builder feeled safe going with 1/2 inch glass and only eurobracing on my 390 G (88x34x30) I insisted going with 15mm glass (0.6") and have a 3 inch wide 1/2 inch thinck Eurobracing on the top) is your builder going with bottom bracing? Mine went without it!!!
check out my build thread I'm just past tank construction.

Awesome, thats good news. I think I'll stick with the 1"x4" euro on top, then bottom bracing along the rear pane, to add a bit of extra strength given it will have a notch cut out for the external overflow.

It seems as though that should work fine, but with a big investment like this, it's always good to make sure. Thanks again for the feedback fellas.
