Yet another mantis to add to my crew!

Kharn

MANTISMAN
G'day all

Just got a call from a mate of mine that runs a LFS and he told me that and I quote.....

"I have the biggest mantis I have ever seen in stock for you, its a large green one about 7inchs long and to my knowledge it looks like a peacock".

These guys are pritty good with measurements and get some pritty weird things in there shop but he stressed a sign of concern over this massive smashing mantis, not wanting to put any part of himself near it let alone paranoid that its container will not hold it for long....

He is sending me a pic of the beast.

A welcome addition to my crew and likely to be housed in the largest volume tank which is the bottom tank of STAND B, I may even remove the eggcrate divider I put in it to give it free range of the whole 3foot tank, undecided yet.

Just a lttle bigger then mine. Congrats dude pictures soon im guessing

rite now my biggest concern is its temporary housing much like the rest.

My current smaller 4inch peacock is doing fine in its container but this one is going to need a lot more, so far I have come to 2 conclusions, firstly doing the exact same thing I did for my current peacock but getting the either next size up or the size above the next size up and doubling up on the eggcrate for walls instead of using singles like I did for my current.

or

With a bit more effort and a bit more for the mantis, I can divide the current 3 foot temp tank into 3 compartments with eggcrate giving each large mantis (spearers and inc peacock) 300mmLx450mmWx500mmH space.

Rite now I am undecided mostly because of how my current peacock swiftly took a liking to its current home.

The good news or at least better news is that STAND C having started earlier is almost 2weeks into its cycle so will be ready (hopefully) before the rest, that way I can get the 2 spearers out of the temp tank and let the large peacock have free range in it until its stand has finished its cycle.

What are you going to do once all your new tanks are filled with mantis? I don’t see you slowing down on your mantis obsession any time soon.

You are to mantis, what J Leno is to cars. Trust me the addiction does not stop. I hope one day I am on a Navy ship pulling into a port near you. So I can see all the mantis you’ve collected. Your pix updates are so regular that I feel like I know your pets like my own.

The plan wasn't to keep collecting, it was to just fill all available space whilst ensuring the safety of each mantis then the actually plan lies in the pictures/videos themselves that are yet to come.

Fartin is that how you got the name, eating your pets? Hmmmm

Kharn you started with a basic design but then you started splitting the tanks for more
mantis. No your right you'll stop collecting once this thing is full........

Mantis just arrived all well and healthy.

HOLY MUTHA OF GOD THIS THING IS F***ING HUGE, MASSIVE, the pics do not do it any justice, this is as big as peacocks get (I hope) its a true freak of size, absolutely MASSIVE, its soo goddamn big o_O

There is always the temp tank setup, where it is, is fine and it with some better prep can easily be divided into 2x 450mmx450mmx450mm enclosures for 'something' and there is the 100L sump below it, either way I'd rather keep both for live food, fish and snails up top with the hermits down bottom.

It's not so much that I won't stop its more so that I buy what I see if it interests me, I have let many a common G.smithii etc go past me but I planned on getting a peacock, I setup for 2-3 peacocks so I wanted peacocks lol :P as far as having a choice as to when they appeared well its proven difficult so those that I see that pop up, are scooped up.

Rite now though, I cannot take anymore not until my stands are finished there cycles then I can get 2 more large spearers & another 2 medium sized smashers the rest is taken up lol =).

I hope my peacocks retain there current colors =) being completely different.

Well the Giant Peacock I got recently underwent its first molt last night, I was very nervous for it (it also might explain why it has struck anything yet since it would of been well into its molt cycle before I even got it).

The whole process was rather swift and smooth so it survived the molt =) but more importantly I hope ( can't see ) that some of the Shell Rot on its Telson is gone.......... I hope.

It has eaten a lot of its old skin but the telson is still there I'll leave it there till about midday and if its still not eaten I'll remove it.

Hard for me to tell rite now (cause I am keeping it dark) but I think it has changed color in the molt to the same as the other, it looks like it lost the green.
