As you can see from the last few pictures, there are FAR less bubbles and flow in the sump now.......it has improved things dramatically.

These last two photos are when the the T5's and HQI's shut down and the moonlights came on. One is with a flash and one is without.......

That looks great. I wish I had the room in my house to do the same thing you are doing with my 90!

Holy sand bed! How much sand did you put in there?

The Tech looks nice "In/wall", What made you go with the 90g instead of the 120g or bigger? Looks like you have room..

Hmmm, about 60 or 75 lbs of sand......... maybe 3-4". I wanted to go with a deep sand bed, but i'm not quite there and i'm much happier with this level. I think it looks like more than it really is.......

This project, in its' infancy, was going to be a nanocube similar to what my brother has (who's sump maybe is 5 or 6 times the size of the tank). The budget initially was approved by the house accountant for that.....and then I saw the tech tanks and I was able to get her to "underwrite" a new budget that went up to $3000. As it is now, i've spent close to $3500 (maybe more). We entertained the thought of a 120, but the associated costs all around would have made it just well beyond an already stretched budget.

At the end of the day, the success or failure of this tank is directly influenced by how much my wife "buys in" to the whole thing. With the 90 she was all for it.....happy to visit That Fish Place every weekend to get something new, ect. Bumping it up even to just a 120 made her sour on it, and well....that's that, right? lol

Quick Update:

Tunze 9010 is installed and seems to be functioning well. Lots of foam.....not necessarily foam of any substance, but foam nonetheless.

Microbubbles are very few at this point. Tank looks clear, but flowrate has been reduced through the sump.

Also, Tunze scrapper arrived. Works extremely well....very powerful magnet. *But*, in hindsight I would have bought a floating scrapper. The line attachment that connects the two magnets in case of separation for easy retrieval doesnt take into account an "in wall" setup ;) When the outside piece is on the outside there is no way for this function to work..... In the end, I just attached the cord to the inside magnet and secured this to an area in the back.

Yup..... i'll post more pics tonight.

But as an update:

It's gone through the diatom phase and then they vanished as quickly as they started. I eventually added about 2 weeks back 1 blue green chromis. This little fish is doing fantastic......

My tunze skimmer, even with just the light load and little bit of live rock puts out about 100ml of skimmate a day (albeit very wet and tea or green-ish color).

I've now been going through the hair algae phase, but it's not a huge amount necessarily. Just a bit on the back of the tank and up towards the lights. It, lately, has begun to get stringy and "weak" and seems to be vanishing on it's own. Helping with this is the fact that my pod and snail population seems to be exploding and when the lights are out I find that both of them rush out of the rock and attack the algae.

The next few weeks will be eventful. I'm putting in 2 TLF Reactors, one for Phosphates and one for Carbon......i'll be putting my Refugium back online (original one cracked and leaked and I had to take it out of the plumbing), and finally i'll be putting the last 100lbs of live rock into the tank and aquascaping.

Updated pics soon.......

Thanks all...... Nano, i've followed your tank progress as well. Very nice!

Ian, you're going to see the tank in 2 days, but here are the pictures I promised. It's only a couple: 2 of the skimmer in action and one just of the Outer Orbit moonlights in action from the view of the fishroom.

During the really bad storms a few days back, I had my first real power outage. We lost it for about 12 hours. It didnt really cause many issues at all, except for the fact that I got a bit of a dust storm when the power came back on and the HK4's whipped back into action. As the tank is in it's own little fish room in the basement, temperature is pretty constant regardless of whether the air is on or not and what time of year it is. Normally it's at 79.6-80.1 and I think it went down to about 76 with the power out, so that was no issue especially since it was hot and I expected temp to go *up* if anything.

No other issues though......

Anyway, here are the few pics:
