Allright, let's stock this baby. 46 gallons, and I plan to keep corals (mixed reef, eventually) in the (distant) future, so reef-safe only please. Also, let's stick with relatively cheap fish, as I don't want to kill any $50+ dollar fish while I'm still learning.
First, a few musts:
Ocellaris Clown (probably 2). Yes, my daughters love Finding Nemo. I like the fact that they're cheap, hardy, colorful, and active.
Royal Gramma. This is one of my favorite fish from scuba diving. I was pretty excited when I found out they are a common aquarium species.
Maybes:
Firefish Goby. I'm indifferent, but my wife likes this fish (gotta keep the other half happy. You know what they say, Happy Wife, Happy Life ). They do fit the cheap and easy (i think) criteria.
Goby/Shrimp pair. I like the bottom dwelling behavior (no comments, please). Open to suggestions, but leaning toward a Diamond or Yellow Watchmen. Randall's? Dragon? And do I get the shrimp (pistol, I presume) at the same time, or do they just kind of pair up whenever (if they do)?
Blenny. Lawnmower or Starry or maybe Midas.
Wrasse of some kind. Most of the above fish are pretty small, so I was hoping to get at least one medium size fish in there. Not sure if this is pushing it bioload or space-wise though. There are a lot of different wrasses that I like the looks of, but I don't know much about which are easy to keep and easy to get along with (both of which would be plusses). Leaning towards a Blue Flasher, Carpenter Flasher, Filamented Flasher, Yellow Coris, or maybe a Sixline. Wide open on this suggestion though.
Coral Banded Shrimp. Another favorite of SWMBO, and I like them too. The serial killer stories make me a little cautious, but as they say, individual results may vary. I'll probably take my chances.
Anything I should avoid in the above list? Anything I missed that you'd recommend? Is there an order (to minimize aggresion) I should go with? I'm hoping to buy a fish or two (probably the clowns) in the next few weeks when everything is stable. Thanks for your thoughts.
