Yikes! I dont think this is good

Well I found something in the tank and I am a bit scared. From what I can tell it looks like some kind of shrimp and I think it has eaten one of my peppermint shrimp. I was able to get some pics of it, but I don't know how to upload them here. Here is the link to the photos:

from what i see all thats in the pic is either a molt or dead peppermint ... if you saw it and it looked like a shrimp its either a pistol or mantis hopefully its just a pistol

The pic looks like a molt of the peppermint to me. If he just molted then he will now be hiding which is maybe why you think he has been eaten.

ok in the pic theres only the shell or the remains of a peppermint shrimp....now did you see something attack or eat it?

You can't go by stuff picking at it, as I've had my cleaner shrimp's molted carpace picked at by other fish and stuff after it was shed. I don't know why they would pick on it, but they did.

Thanks everyone....turned out you were all right! It was one of my peppermint shrimp. Turns out that he didnt make it through his molting, which I heard is fairly common as it is taxing on their system. FMAS and RC to the rescue, once again!!!

O. That's too bad he didn't make it... I've never really seen or heard of that happening before, but I'm sure it happens...

I read that shrimp are unable to molt when there is a lack of iodine.

Everything with a shell seems to molt in my tank almost weekly. its a bit of a bother actually.

are you sure he's not just hiding?? normally they hide for a few days after the molt to let the new exoskeletin harden

if you dont dose iodine in you system regulary, that could be your problem.

ive never dosed iodine and have never had problems
