I just bought a Nikkor Fisheye 10.5mm lens for my Nikon D70... $525 shipped.

Man... is a fisheye really worth it? I've been wanting one for years, and finally decided to take the plunge, but now that I think about it, I just lost half a grand for a piece of glass.

well, I'll put it to good use. Maybe I should start selling prints. But i suck so much, I doubt anyone other than my mother would want to buy them.

lol- moms are great ay? :p
Seriously- you can do some amazing stuff with fisheye lenses. A friend of mine makes panaramics that are out of this world with a fisheye lens.

Yeah, I've seen such amazing pictures taken with a fisheye. The distortion adds a bit of "artistic" value to it, as well as being able to shoot the entire 180 degree plane in front of it.

I should try to take a picture of my fish's eye, with this fisheye ;)

The main reason for the lens purchase was because I love urban night photography, and I'd think this would be perfect to show off the large skyscrapers etc. that are in San Francisco (I live right across the bay from SF). I also like doing car shoots, and I think the fisheye may give it a neat look as well.

I've always said SF is my favorite city in America... pretty much anywhere in the whole bay area has great views.
Well hurry up and post some pics with that new lens! :D

Ah, well it arrives on wednesday, I'm just kind of thinking about the purchase.

It's so much money on a lens that I'm hoping I put it to good use =)

Are ANY good lenses cheap? I really want a 200-400mm lens for wildlife (heck, I'd *really* love a 500mm or 600mm)...that'll set me back about $5K which is why I'll probably never own one for many years. The best glass is never cheap.

Last year I went with a 50mm f/1.8 lens for $100 because I couldn't swallow the $280 for the 50mm f/1.4 model. Such is photography equipment...just like reefing!

If it's the Nikon lens then everyone said that's the best $100 lens out there you can buy.

flameangel88....oh, it's an awesome lens for $100! No doubt about that. A great prime to have in your bag for an "all around" lens. I love it for landscapes, statues, things like that. Even great for snapshots. I was very pleased with that purchase....though I must admit I would have loved the f/1.4 model. Sometimes it's all about the f-stop.

I picked up the same 50mm for my 20D. Awesome lens for the price.

Koden, you're being way too modest. You take great shots, if you could get some prints in front of people I'm sure they would sell.

just got the lens, but haven't been able to take any real shots. Just for fun shots I took were really not artistic in anyway, just really quick to show you the curvature and the amazing 180degree angle this can get. The second picture is actually cropped more than half, since the other side of the street was super boring.

get hol dof DXO optics.

You can straighten out your shots with it so u can use wideangle, but with the distortion.

Im desperatly after a fish eye for my 350d, but again its money.

the 50mm f1.8 is a fantastic lense, perfect for takin photos at gigs, due to its low f stop.

I bought the lens knowing about the distortion. I think it adds an "artistic" touch to wide angle shooting. I thought the whole purpose of spending so much on a fisheye was for that purpose? There are wide angle lenses that can accomplish almost the same, without that much distortion.

I never needed the huge wide angles, my kit lens does pretty good in that respect. I got this lens for that crazy curve ;)

Sure that picture isn't very good, since I only have the top curving down, but if you had some picture where the curves really brought out an artistic view of a composition, then that's when the distortion is good ;)

that's my take. would you use a fisheye only to straighten it out? Just curious. I should try it though just to see.

very kewl ... i've been cameras and darkrooms for over 30 years and I have never played with a fish eye lens

I have a Sigma 105mm F/2.8. It's fantastic! I've never used the nikon, but I can't see how much sharper you'd want a picture to be ;) I'm not good enough to know the differences.

Here's a lily i took with the 105mm macro:

and a super closeup of a shrimp (that unfortunately kept swaying):

and then a nearly 1:1 macro:
