weird branch like thing, i think the little 'worm' thing below it is dead, hasn't moved in 2 days
Untitled-5.jpg

this clam opens and closes, it's soooo weird!
Untitled-1.jpg

lots of life on this one!
Untitled-4.jpg

this orange is unique! what is it?
Untitled2.jpg

what exactly is this white thingie???
Untitled-3.jpg

this is probably the weirdest, it seems to have veins and it moves, i think its a clam on the other side!
Untitled-6.jpg

is this a baby anemone?
Untitled-7.jpg

First photo is a red macroalgae, with possibly a small sea cucumber next to it.

Second photo looks more like an oyster, but I wouldn't know, they're all mollusks to me.

Orange is an encrusting sponge or tunicate.

White looks like a chicken liver sponge (according to Richard, I'm pretty sure).

Last one is an anemone, yes.

Watch for things rising out of the sand, that's also very entertaining.

Congratulations and welcome to the crowd!

Hey Noobie - according to Richard that 1st picture is the infamous donkey dong cucumber. Mine has moved 6 inches in 6 weeks. Every so often it will pop it's "head" up but that's been about it.

i think mine is dead???it hasn't moved in a looong time, I think the first time we put it in there, we thought it was dead, but we decided to see, it appeared to move 2 inches, but it could have been the power head that moved it (we didn't see it) and now it just sits there, I think its dead...

Donkey cuke...

Donkey cuke...

Hi Noobie, I got one of those cucumbers also with my TBS. Was wondering was it was, cause the donkey ones seemed uglier than this one. Mine has moved to like one spot, and it has little feeder tentacles out, so I'm thinking he is a filter feeder.

It's funny, the pics you posted look about the same as my shipment, its so cool isn't it?

I have had all kinds of things appear, already caught 4 mantis, found lots of porcelin crabs, one red mithrax (think its a mithrax), one large red serpent star and a ton of brittle stars. Did you get any bubble anenomes on your rock? I think I have found 5 so far.

I can't wait to start another tank, but this time, start with TBS rock at the beginning.

Didn't mean to hijack, but I thought I would share my rock stories too, hehe.

My Reef Tank Page

nah man, no hijacking done...I have found lots of baby anemones...I hope to get my lighting right this week so I can keep them...my cucumber thing is darker on the ends and lighter in the middle...dunno, I guess I'll find out if it is dead or not...I've done two water changes since thursday(i have SeaChem and it uses these little discs)and it makes me soo paranoid, so when it got close to 1ppm, I would change, so I did...I'm really enjoying everything right now, algae is starting to take off, no mantis shrimp, couple of brittle stars(babies) and a few football looking snails...other than that, not really any hitchhikers, I have moonlighting, maybe tonight I won't cut it on, just so i can see if anything else comes out...I'll check our your reefpage!

and I have problems with white stuff floating around constantly, it looks like it is snowing in there! HD says it is poop, is there anything that eats that?

hey Sea Munkie, what are your tank specs?equipment?your tank looks A LOT BETTER since you got that TBS!!!What kinda lights do you have?

Hey Noob, here are my specs, like you asked.

100gal - glass
2 Emperor 400's (going to remove the wheels, I know about them being nitrate sinks)
2 Maxi-jet 1200 powerheads
300w heater
48" 440W VHO light fixture (2 white, 2 actinic)
160lbs of LR
80lbs of LS
Temperature is 80F, SG is .025, ammonia and nitrite at 0, Nitrate about 12.5.
Did a water change last night after that test, so the nitrates have undoubtedly gone down.

Livestock
1 Lawnmower Blenny (Krakken)
2 Mithrax crabs (one red, one green)
11 Mexican Turbo Snails (should be 12, one of them is HUGE)
5 Bumblebee Snails
20 Nassarius Snails
10 Scarlet Reef Hermits
15 Dwarf Red Tip Hermits
1 Red Serpent Star
5-10 Small Brittle Stars (non of the green variety)
At least a dozen small Porcelin Crabs.

Goblin, I got rid of all the damsels before adding the TBS rock (and yes what a pain that was). Had foolishly listened to the one of the LFS and bought them to help the tank cycle. I traded them back at my LFS (good one) for some of my turbos. I have been back to the LFS and seen the damsels, they are in a huge show tank now, happy as clams.

Now I am waiting a bit longer to get anything else for the tank, wanted to let everything settle a bit more (just got a bit of livestock in). Can't wait till I start adding some fish.
