PICS!!
Give them to us NOW! :)

we need pics

O.K. O.K.
Sorry guys been busy but here ya go. More will follow tomorrow once the tank is in

The stand - I have only painted the top ... 2 coats of epoxy paint also painted the finish vertical trim pieces covering the wall studs since they will be unaccessible after tank goes in

So tomorrow I have some movers coming over to get the tank thru the basement window and on to the stand. The finish trim guys will be back on Monday to frame in the tank on the finished side of the room. Then within a week or so the granite bar should be going in under the tank.

Anxious to actually see the tank in the room and on the stand!!!!

Finally - tank is in the basement and on the stand!!!1:beer:

And everything is level :spin1: :spin1: :spin1:

In several places along the stand I can slide a sheet of paper between tank and stand ... maybe 1/32" off in some places. I assume once I get water in the weight will disburse that out evenly and not be a problem.

I ended up hiring a moving company to get it in the basement .... they only sent 4 guys to do it but they were insured so if it got dropped or broken the movers would foot the bill for the replacement. Didn't want to take any chances. Few scary moments where the 2 guys walking backwards with it down the steps in the yard to get to the basement window stumbled and I thought the woole thing was going down but they recovered nicely and got it in with no problems.

Next steps are to finish painting the stand and putting silicone bead on the inside edge of the overflow boxes. I don't know why but Marineland only caulks the edge on the inside of the tank. I have seen several threads here where leaks occur along the edges. Want to be extra safe!!!

That's great to see!!

Thanks, I was really excited to see it get on the stand. It has been sitting in the garage for weeks. I love the dimensions even more now that I have it in place ... it really scaled down the size once in place and I think the 36" depth is going to be awesome!!!

How you are you coming along with your build?

Did yours say regular glass on the side of the box? Mine does and I thought the front of all the d.d. were starefire (or whatever its called).
The delivery was a surprise, they were supposed to give me 2 week advance notice so I could have everything ready. Oh well, helps get my butt in gear I guess

The cardboard packing on the side showed an option of either Starphire or Standard glass and mine was marked Starphire

Also, there is a sticker on the inside front of the tank like this

The Sticker says that it is Starphire glass front panel

Sounds like maybe you didn't get Starphire front?? I know it is an upcharge...sounds like a call to your LFS is in order!!

Son of a b---h, just looked and mine doesn't have any of those markings :furious: no wonder when I paid it was $500 cheaper than what I was originally quoted

UPDATE:

Basement is progressing nicely. You can see where the brackets are in place for the granite bar top to go under the tank.

And the front of the tank is trimmed out and ready for paint.

BUT ...... when the carpenter framed in the front of the tank he pushed the tank back on the stand "just a bit" and ...... now the tank hangs off the tank slightly on one end!!!!

Here is a shot of the edge of the tank off the stand looking up from under the tank .. kinda hard to see

After alot of back and forth with the project manager I had the carpenter back tonight to tell me exactly how he is going to retrim the front of the tank to allow it to sit fully on the stand. I may be being paranoid but I don't want to take ANY chance with a failure.

He is coming back Friday to rip down the trim by 1/2" to allow the tank to move forward enough to get fully on the stand. I will be out of town over the weekend and then the granite will be installed next Monday or Tuesday. I will post pix to update the status.

Curious what you guys think .... paranoid .... or reasonable concern??:spin2:

I think you are doing the right thing having them get it the way you want it. When I pay for work to be done in my home, I expect it to be done as well or better than I can do it myself which means I would want it addressed. Good luck with the build. I like the counter / bar top idea in front of the tank.

I agree - I am happy with the way he did the work but just knew that I would alway worry about the edge of the was slightly off. I knew If I was going to fix it it had to be now. Took a few rounds of "discussions" to get them to agree to fix it but I am glad it is being done!!

I think the bar will be a nice finishing touch ... anxious to see it all come together!!!

VERY reasonable concern! That is a alot of weight that needs equal distribution or catastophic failure is the end result. Glad you got them to fix it.
