Yoccm's 300G DD In Wall Build

How is everything going with your tank so far

Hey Crazyfizh - it's going well. I have put my two clownfish in the tank and they are doing fine. My next big step is getting lighting and then setting my Apex up and getting the wiring cleaned up.

I have pretty much decided on the Lumenbrite fixture I have the link for above. Still a bit worried that I will be tight for space but think I can make it work.

Thats a great looking fixture. Does it come in 72" length? Where did you find it for sale? I'm still trying to decide on lighting

It does come in 72" length. If you google "Lumenbrite all in one fixture" you will get a number of sites that sell it including reef specialty, aqua cave and salty supply. Check around because some offer with bulbs and others without.

BTW - how's the tank coming along? Is it wet yet?

Sorry for the delay in pix .... here are some shots of the finished plumbing

Shout out to Mike aka prop frags - the Gate Valves were soooo the way to go on the Herbies!!!!

How do you like your skimmer? I'm thinking about adding that same skimmer to my 180 setup.

The skimmer has been great! Took a few weeks to break in but running like a champ now. I drain pretty nasty skimmate twice a week and clean the gunk off weekly. I have one of the neck cleaners but won't install it until I set my Apex up.

Okay - the decision is officially made!!! I am purchasing the Lumenbrite all-in-one fixture I put the link in for earlier. I am planning on ordering tomorrow!! I am sooooo ready to get the lights after months of deliberation.

That is one my hardest decisions that i have to make.

I hear ya. I actually went over to a guys house today to buy a few frags and it sealed the deal for me. He had two cube tanks one lit with LEDs and one lit with MH/T5. Hands down the MH/T5 looked infinitely better then the LEDs. He had frags in both tanks from the same mother colony and the color and "pop" was much better on the MH/T5 tank and the tank just looked better ... LEDs looked washed out and dull.

The guy was using 20K radiums and they looked great.

As for the fixture I picked - I just liked the idea of an integrated unit. I was a bit intimidated with trying to build and wire a DIY fixture. I also really like the idea of a remote ballast box with all ballasts in one place with one cable coming from the fixture.

Good luck with your decision. I must have flip flopped 100 times!!!!!

Why not leds?

I was replying to Crazyfish when you posted. I kind of explain why in that post. Just haven't liked the tanks I've seen lit with LEDs. I also think I want to wait and see if they continue to improve on them and start to provide broader spectrum of colors. I do love the programability of them but just decided to stick with the tried and true MH/T5 combo.

i tink for now i will use my mh just need to ad one more.i have my ballast on my old tank about ten feet away from my lights or so now they will be the fish room (garage). I did the same thing that profrags did with the diy plugs when i put them in and i also run 20,000 k bulbs but the only thing is i only pay about 12.00 per bulb so i can chang them about every 5-6 m.
Buy the way i might have missed it but what did you do with the 1/1.5 returns.

Im pretty sure that I am going with leds. I just have not decided AI or DIY.

I have 3-250DE over my 180, but the heat in the summer is really bad.

Yeah the reduced heat is also a big + with LEDs. A lot of people love LEDs. The ones I saw today were DIY but were 3watt with 60 degree optics. Not sure if the AI units would look different.

OK just bit the bullet and ordered the Lumenbrite fixture. It came with 4 coralvue super actinic t5s and I ordered 3 20K radiums. I will post pics once it gets here but coming from California to MI so could be awhile.

Thanks Mike - You and me both. Not to mention my family and friends. Everyone is getting a bit anxious to see some life in the tank!

I was told this unit will come with the new Coralvue LuxCore ballasts so I am hoping to overdrive the radiums to keep them from looking too blue. You use 20K radiums right? How do you like them?

The Radiums produce a very clean, crisp light, but the 20k's are a bit more blue than we'd like. We've been experimenting w/an Ushio 14k in the middle, so not sure what we'll end up doing.

Well for what it's worth your tank looks amazing under the 20Ks!

I will look forward to your opinion on the 14K. My thought was similar that I will use at least one or two of the 20Ks in the mix so worst case I will have a backup replacement for the future.
