Your experience with S. Haddoni

As the title says. Looking for input on your experience with S. Haddoni. If you've had bad experiences, how so? Where was the anemone purchased? Was it in rough shape before you bought it? etc. etc... Add in what size tank, current lighting it's under, and area of flow you have it in.

Any general information and input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Scott

I've had mine for about 6 years now. I purchased it from a LFS, was in good condition. It is in my 58gal. For the first 3 years that I had it, it was under 3*96 PC. Since then, 2*175 MH + 2*96PC. I don't feed it as often as I should, about twice a month, maybe 3 times if it is lucky ;)
Over the years it has hosted a Cin. Clown, and a pair of saddlebacks. So far my pink skunks seem to prefer the BTA. ( Only have had one issue b/t the Haddoni and the BTA - that was when a clone went on walkabout - the Haddoni took the brunt of it, but was fine a couple of days later)
The tank has fairly high flow -- 600gph return, 3 Sieo 620s and 2 Rio 600s. The sandbed is CC. Beside me doing the moving, it has only moved 3 times over the years.
I've only lost one fish to it, a YWG.

Thanks Todd for your post :)

6 years! That is impressive.. good job

I fear my fish may be at risk as I have a YWG as well. I think I will remove him from my system... I'd rather he live a happy fish life rather than become a 2 second snack for an anemone .

Thanks again for your post.

****I'd like to add to my original post but I can't edit it now. What kind of clowns are being hosted in your S. Haddoni?****

Thanks all.

You are welcome, I will take a picture tonight of it. It has managed to live through all my mistakes ;)
I am surprised I haven't lost more fish to it, when my purple tang was in that tank it would try to pick out some extra silversides from it, never got caught. It was a shame about the YMG, I was able to pull it out before it was in the mouth, but it was too late, it died the next day.

I saw your other thread, my saddlebacks were the ones that like it the most. Never left it, the Cin. Clown would go back and forth.

Please do post pics !

I am also surprised to hear it has only eaten the one fish. They are notorious fish eaters... but hey, good on ya man...

As for the hosting.. I have two true percs.. and I am *hoping* they take to the carpet. They took to all my BTA's , so ya never know !

I have no facts, just a feeling. I think my skunks would be hosted by it, if I didn't have the BTA in the tank. Like I said, I have no proof, just a feeling.

I know, I've heard the stories too, I am shocked, but so far so good.
Watch I will get home tonight to see my fairy wrassed sticking out of its mouth ;)

 I like how you put the smilie at the end of that sentence :p

I think your safe to make that assumption. But , who really knows!? haha

I blame my excessive smilie useage on the GF (ducks)

And you know I will blame you if it happens ;)

I am going to be taking off soon, I will have a picture up in a couple of hours.

I have a green S. Haddoni carpet anemone. I got it suprisingly from EBay. The seller had placed the anemone up but it did not sell. Once he had posted it again I started to ask questions. All came back good so I purchased it.

The anemone arrived in great shape and has been doing great in my system all this time. Well except for an extended period of time were it was in some one elses tank as mine was destroyed by Katrina. I have a thread here were I talk about all that if you had not seen it. I updated the thread today so it should be on the front or second page if you had not seen it.

Anyways the system it is housed in is in my sig with all details about lighting, water flow, and etc... I have the lighting setup for an hour of nothing but actinic lighting for an hour, then the halides for 10 hrs, then actinic for another hour. So total 12 hour lighting cycle.

I feed it shrimp, silversides, and oyster every other day. Once a week I shimmer water with garlic powder for about 20 minutes. I let that cool then add whichever I am feeding my anemones with to soak for 15 minutes. Before feeding I do a light rinse to remove any powder then feed. My anemones react quickly to this feeding and plumb up real good from it also.

I have had this Haddon for a little over a year and a half.

Pictures are in my gallery of this anemone. Also my pair of A. Percula have hosted in this anemone every since I put it into the tank.

Here are two (bad) pictures of my Haddoni.

Would you mind posting your experience with S. Haddoni, please??? Looking for info rather than pics. That is however a stunning electric green . Is it dyed or photoshopped? That's some pretty neon green... He doesn't appear to be too happy in that picture either??

Todd, that's a beauty...looks nice and healthy, nice colour combos as well.

Thanks all.

He is happy now, That picture was 20 minutes after i put him in. I have 2 ocellaris clowns who are just hovering near him. I will get a new picture soon, and no that picture is not photshopped or enhanced. He eats very well, about 3 times a weak he gets shrimp and just clamps down on it and sucks it down.

Thanks, guys, he was still a bit upset with me, I had cleaned the glass,(inside) and it completely retracted under the sand/rock when I
banged into it. But dang is that thing sticky. When I moved the tank I had to put on gloves to remove it, otherwise it would have stuck to my hand (happened before, and let me tell you - it hurts)

I have had mine for about 7 months now. I got it from my work. It was shipped very well and we had it in our system for about 2 month before I took it home. It was still rather small when I got it. Since then it has doubled in size. I have it in my 55g. Lighting is 2x150 HQI, and 2x130 Actinic PC. Flow I have a sieo 820, 3 Mixijet 1200's (1 running into a spray bar), a Fluval 404, and an Coralife Super Skimmer. Mine is located in the middle of my tank on the bottom. They are very awesome. My 2 Occ Clowns still dont give it any thought. Hopefully they will. They only thing that gives it any attention are my newly purchased Sexy Anemone Shrimp. Just be ware you will lose some things as snacks.

Gorgeous Carpets guys!! I am goign to be getting a Blue S. Haddoni on Monday. (hence all my research the past few days)

I guess I could inform you of my tank (temporary home) and my setup.

For now I have a 20g (soon to be somewhere from 50-70g.. still can't decide on dimensions) the 20g has been setup and stable for 2 years this August.

I am running a Giesemann Nova II (250w HQI) So my lighting is good. Running 2 Seio 620's . I skim with an AquaC Remora. Using RO/DI water as well.

Regarding the stickiness... I assume gloves will be a wise investment. I am thinking of getting a pair of those yellow dish washing gloves.. they are kinda arm length. I think that will be sufficient for handling the anemone.

I am really looking forward to a new challenge. These are such beautiful creatures. Anemones fasinate me .

Thanks again to everyone for their posts.. keep 'em coming!

In the 1 1/2 yrs that I have had my S. Haddoni I am really suprised that I have not lost even one fish to this anemone.

I also have never used any gloves while handling this anemone either. I guess I just have a wish for pain. Though luckily I have always been able to manuveur the anemone were I never touched its tenticles.

Now I had rescued a S. Gigantea and let me tell you those things really hurt. I was trying to get it out of the bag to acclimate it and it got ahold of my hand. My hand was tingling and numb-feeling for five hours.

Good luck with the new Haddoni. I would probably go with the 70 if I was you, but I like to have the biggest tank that I can house. I am currently looking into trying to find a 200 or 250 to go with. I have a place for it in the corner of my living room that I would love to put it.
