Your Experience With The Regal Tang!

I currently have a half inch regal tang in my 65 and would like to know what people's experiences are with this tang. Is it a hard fish to keep? Do they get ich easier? Are they prone to othe diseases? Like I said, I'm looking for personal experiences.

PS. I don't plan on upgrading on a tank in the very near future, and I already have a yellow and a kole.

they get ich easier but are great fish, I have had mine for almst 11 years and he has been grea, only moves some snails around the tank, People in our local club have has them eating zoos

Are we talking about a blue regal (hippo)? I have had zero luck with them until my most recent. I finally upgraded to a larger tank (150g) and now my hippo is doing great.

Three tangs in a 65g is asking for trouble IME... Your regal is probably going to out grow your tank in probably less than a year.

I had great success with my first BT.

They are Ich magnets. QT is extremely important with them.

They have great character, sometimes a bit quirky.

Mine is really a wuss. He hides all the times when people approach the tank. But, no problems, beautiful fish. IMO, a staple for reef tanks. Unfortunately, every kid that ever sees it says, "ohh, it's the fish from Finding Nemo!"

Once the blue regal outgrows my tank, will it start knocking things over?

My concern with 3 tangs in a tank that size would not be the fear of having things knocked over. Rather, I would be concerned with the compatibility of the 3 tangs cohabitating. They could begin nipping at each other and illness could follow in short order.

haha... I don't think it will start knocking things over. But you need to think of longterm health with the fish. Your tank is too small.. bottom line. You need to upgrade sometime soon to keep all those tangs alive , healthy and happy.

I am sure if it knew how to let out agression towards it's owner.. it would start knocking things over come a few months from now.

I have had a blue tang in my 58 gallon with a yellow tang for 2 years now with no problems. Mine was about 1" when I got it and now is about 3-4". I may someday need to upgrade but I don't think so for another year or two at its current growth rate. I do change 10% water every week.
