Your opinion of the pluses and minuses of this tank please

Hey everyone,

I've been looking for a 55 gallon tank to purchase and came across this setup on craigslist. I honestly haven't seen a sump system built into the back of a tank before and wanted to get your opinion on whether or not this tank would be a good idea? The only question I have is how this setup would work with a skimmer, calc. reactor, etc. Also, do you think the noise level would be louder then on a regular sump setup in the base?

I hope you didn't buy it. BAD Idea where are you going to put your skimmer and the rest of your stuff??? get a tank with an overflow so you can have a sump.

I agree with coralfarmer, if you just have patience and look on both the BAR and craigslist you will find a gem. I think on the BAR there is a 120 with stand for $200 and that has overflows. I think the seller is kapre if I'm correct?

Hey gents,

Yeah, I was thinking about it some more, and got a couple of other opinions, and all of them said don't do it. I found another good deal, and I'm going to look at it this weekend. Fingers crossed it's what I'm looking for. I post some pics if I end up purchasing it.

I have a 95 gallon TruVu with the AquaSystem, pretty much the same setup as the Craig's List tank you posted. everything is a PIA
Too tight back there for most equip.
would not do it again

Brad I have a glass 55 with wood stand I am not using and would part with cheap if you are interested.

Is it hard to get a glass tank with a black background and a built-in overflow? I was just under the assumption that it would be much easier to get those things in an acrylic tank. Am I wrong, because if I am I would actually rather have a glass tank with those options.

Sounds great. Is this something I'd be able to pick up at a LFS? Sorry for the questions, but I am a complete rookie when it comes to my knowledge of glass tanks with overflows.
