YourReef discount?

Edwin,

I'm going to buy the bulbs from him either way, but I don't mind saving a buck or thirty.

I was hoping to pick up some lights too... I need 2x250W MH 14k Ushios, 2x400w MH 10k Ushios, 2x 96W PC actinics, 4x55/65W PC (half actinic, half 10k), 4x22W PC mixed.

Soo... 20% discount would be awesome for my particular situation.

Hey Mike,

Last time I was in he only had 2 of the 250W 14K Ushios, and that is what I am after. However I have been flip flopping between the 14K Ushio and the 20K XM. This might be a perfect way to help me make up my mind for sure.

Take care,

John

John, if you would like the 14ks, just let me know and I will not pick them up. I was hoping to get all the lights at the same time so no big deal if you did not want to go the 20ks. I also run the 96W actinics on that same system so 20k is a bit too blue.

Mike,

I am not sure what I want. I figure with 4 80W T5 bulbs 2 Giesemann Pure Actinic and 2 Giesemann 11000K Aquablue Plus the 14K might be the better option. This is a new tank in the making, so I do not yet have a base line. If I end up with the 20K XM bulbs and I do not like them I will try something else in six months or so.

I try to keep this hobby an anti stresser I get enugh stress at work.

I ordered some of the 14K Ushios a while back and like them well, I have 2/96w PCs Actinics to blue it up, but has a nice tone.....here is a pic of what it looks like in person.......not blue, but silver is what I call it.

I am going to order some Phoenix 14K cuz I am kinda wanting to go back to the bluer bulb.........

Anyone remember what the PAR rating on the Ushio vs the Phoenix in the 250w DE is?......can't find the Ushio on Sanjays site.....

I did some checking and I learned that the Ushio 14K only comes in a DE bulb, and I need a SE. I am going for the XM 20K's with the hope that SE Ushio 14K will be available in 250W soon. And if I like the XM 20K bulbs I may stick with them for a while.

Doug,

I have spent hours sifting through Sanjays site, and I finally settled on the Ushio 14K or the XM 20K for my baseline MH bulbs. Once the system is up and running I will systematically consider and select other bulbs until I find what I think is perfect on my tank.

One thing I have learned about reef lighting is that "the perfect reef lighting setup" is by far one of the most subjective subjects on the planet.

I hear ya':p

Not only is choosing the right bulb difficult, but matching it up to the right ballast simply doubles your effort.

You can count on that for sure.....its a balance between the "look" and performance.......I think that those bulbs I suggested are the ones people have found to be a good balance between the two and just was suggestting them in case you hadn't considered them.

what is even more frustrating is that the color temps and the way the look differ not only from manufacturer to manufacturer but bulb to bulb made by the same place...not too mention the whole ballast, and wattage, SE vs DE coloration.

For instance, 14K Phoenix 150W DEs and 250W DEs look a little different to me........and when I had 150DEs Phoenix on my tank it looked WAY too blue, but the same bulb on Jordans looked really good and has made me reconsider them now that I have the 250s and want a bluer look for both the 75g and especcially the nano.

Another thing, who has used the Aqualine Busheke 10k that is rated at a 13K..........I would consider that bulb if its not yellow and as blue as it is described to as being. 13K with Actinics and 10K PAR could be the best of both worlds.

In fact, I change mine out every 6 months just to see whats out there and eventually will find something I can live with for a while.....it seems that these Ushios are shifting towards the yellow only after six months.

Though for how much a pain it can be and how much research/trial and error needs to be done and how much supplementation makes it look differenent, is one of the reasons I prefer MH to T5........tunability seems to be infinite.
